Tom, thanks. Any chance you'd be willing to accept a return on the slave cable I bought with my DICE unit, as I obviously don't need it?

Question

How can I find out whether I need a Radio interface vs the Trunk Interface.

I have a 2004 X5 Business CD with no changer in the trunk?

Sure, how long have you had the cable?

Can you tell me if your X5 is equipped with DSP?

Sometimes it does not scroll

Tom,
I bought my DICE system in Aug and at first i had issues w/ the song, artist, and album not scrolling. It just stays at the song and does not move. Then it started to scroll all the time and worked perfect and now sometimes it does not.

I have:
2001 X5 3.0i
DSP dig (bought the dsp adpt)
I have radio w/ the sweet tape deck.
Ipod Nano 1.1.3 (upgraded)

DIP Car switch off/off (when 1st put this in i had on/off but you stated to have them both off, should i have off/on i have the cassetted head unit, page 9);
DIP Ipod switch off/off

I have called DICE tech support and he said this is happening to some people and they are doing in upgrade. 1st time i called was 8.18.8 then called 9.2.8 and then called yesterday (will call back sometime w/info???)

Just last wkend is when it started not to work sometimes. I would plug it in w/ radio off and car running then it will work at 1st but then if we go shopping and turn the car off then come back it will not scroll. We have tried plugging in the ipod w/ the engine off, w/ engine on and radio off, and radio on /engine running but does not seem to change, sometime it will work and sometimes not.

Do you have any info or tips. DICE says it is working on an "upgrade" to correct this issue but i never get a straight anwser.

thanks for any help

This typically happens when the battery is not disconnected during installation. I would recommend the following steps:

1. Disconnect iPod from cable
2. Remove battery cables, negative first
3. Touch battery cable terminals together (away from battery) for +5 seconds, a small spark is normal as this is stored power draining from the system.
4. Allow cables to remain disconnected for about 5-7 minutes
5. Reconnect battery cables onto battery, negative last.
6. Reboot iPod by pressing on MENU and CENTER buttons for +5 seconds and then reconnecting to the DICE cable after the reboot process is completed.

The battery is located underneath the spare tire on the X5.

hi Tom,
I did dis-connect the battery when i did install the system like you stated awhile back. I guess i can try this but always had the battery dis-connected.

Should i have the DIP off off and off off or should i have it on off and off off. I have the 01 w/ tape deck. In the manual (page 9) it states that the early models w/ tape deck should be on off (car) off off (ipod). I had this way awhile back then you told me to have them all off
thanks
