I-Phone and I-pod Questons
Like to say thanks for all the responses you have done over the years. You helped me install many Dices and I had not had a signal problem. The only problem that seems to be requiring is Apple evolving I-pods, I-phone and etc. Again, I have the Dice and it works great with my 4th Gen I-Pod & 1st Gen I-phone. I recently had a buddy connect his newer I-pod/I-phone (3rd Gen) to the car and it didn't work out so great. The problem was you can only shuffle through playlist/Artist through the console rather than using the clockwheel/I-phone.Is the clockwheel feature only for old 4th Gen I-pods. I cant shuffle through songs on my phone. Is that because of the firmware upgrades? I am a big fan of the Clockwheel and I-pod feature on the I-phones. I read several Blogs and found the latest and greatest is the ice/Silverline. I have yet to find out what I need to buy. It looks like I have to buy the whole Dice/Silverline kit. Do I need to install all the new cables (I undersand it on takes 20 or so min)? Pictures look like is the same kit from the outside( imagine it is different hardware/software). Can I get away of just replacing the module? If i can get away just replacing the module, can I buy just the Module? Well, thanks for help and Happy New Years. Peace Last edited by flyingbulldog; 12-30-2008 at 02:19 PM. |

Earlier iPods on a non-SILVERLINE kit do not experience this issue. All DICE-specific features are still available. If Clickwheel operation is desired, you can set the DICE module's DIP switches to Simple iPod mode to gain access of the Clickwheel, but will lose text display on the radio when doing so.

I am looking for the easiest and least time consuming install possible. I would like to add the DICE module to both my X5 w/ DSP and my e46 M3 non-DSP. Both are currently equipped with CD changers. Can I just unplug the CD changer and plug in the DICE, then plug the ipod to the DICE right there in the trunk? I don't need my ipod in front with me since I normally just leave it on shuffle and can control it with the steering wheel controls when necessary.
I looked through the install instructions and this seems like it would be an easy install if you don't want the hassle of running another cable (for the DICE) from the rear of the vehicle to the front. Is there a shorter DICE cable for this purpose?

Hello.... Call me a pessimist, but i gave up on both the Dice & IceLink, they both were giving me a lot of problems and the vendors did not help, i have a 2003 4.4i X5, with Bluetooth and navigation, but no DSP.... Example of the problems i had:-
-Music / ipod gets stuck -Ipod continues playing when using the bluetooth phone connection -ID tags disappear after using the bluetooth connection with my mobile -Playlists do not play in order and sometimes music played in alphabetical order instead of playlist order -Occasional distortion, requiring restart of the ipod and the car's system (i.e. remove ipod, start up the car & stereo, stop the car, reinstall the ipod, bla bla bla...) -ID tags do not appear or very slow to show -You have to restart the ipod a million times (i tried all ipod versions/generations, the most suitable are the old ones) My advise is to stick to the original CD changer installed (if available) or just get the OEM Aux-in retrofit kit (Much cheaper and more reliable)... By the way, some X5's have them already installed.... PS, i tried all software up-dates available for both.... And none worked properly..... Yanal |

Tom--thanks for confirming and thanks for the links!
Yanal--Thanks for the insights....Did you ever diagnose each of these problems? It sounds like many of your problems may have been related to combination of bluetooth with the DICE programming. I'd be interested in whether you ever found the root cause of each of these issues. BTW--my X5 is an '02 so no factory aux input for me

Situation:
When iPod/Dice silverline starts to play and the song name/artist/album is shown on the navi screen (mode 02, i.e. DISC 6, track 02), I press Menu, Navigation to return to my navigation route. After a while I want to change the playlist. When I enter to CD menu (by pressing DISC 2) - the info is not shown anymore. I cannot see what playlist is current and what is the next one by rotating the jog dial. I have to select DISC 06, TRACK 02 again to show the current info, then DISC 2 to change the playlist. My question is: IS THIS NORMAL? I have registered my product and asked diceelectronics.com/support - noting...
