Just finished my enclosure for my x5. I put in a 10" kenwood slimline sub instead of pioneer. My Aussie X5 is a right hand drive car and we actually ended up putting the sub in the left compartment and PDX-5 amp in the right compartment.

Good thing the I ask the audio shop to check the dimension again before building the enclosure.

Great thread Essam.

Sry in advance that this is abit off topic...

Im currently in the process of selecting a 3 way speaker for my front stage. I did a lot of hunting in the last week for aftermarket speaker that would fit straight in with out too much problems. I know BSW is a good option but got rid of all my OEM HU and amp setup and replace with Alpine HU and amp. So BSW is probably not a viable option with aftermarket setup. SO the only set of 3 way speaker that I can find that has a 2.5" mid rangethat will go in the dash speaker is the DLS range.

DLS Ultimate UP36i 3-way system 6.5"

Does anyone know if there are any option for a 3-way speaker that will fit in OEM speaker location? And can anyone confirm that the DSL 3 way will fit in?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yo! Fraktulz, Have you got your system up and running, yet?

I just replaced my (blown?) Alpine 350 watt amp with an Alpine 500 watt and man-oh-man, there is a difference! I can say, IMHO, that the Alpine 350 watt amp has just enough power for the Pioneer 251w shallow-sub (it's a good combination!) to make it a perfect match ie., a X5 w/ 4.8is. An Alpine 450 watt amp would be like adding a CAI to that same X5 w/ 4.8is, but the Alpine 500 watt is like that X5 w/4.8is and CAI plus a Magnaflow X-pipe and a set of
Dinan Free Flow Exhausts!!

Either one of the three amps should make a good system!

Isn't it always true that more powerful is better! Now I have amp envy in addition to wheel envy.

Years ago I got the original Bose 901 speaker system along with a quality 60 amp. This, Bose and all the review articles said, was way more than enough. Years later I borrowed a very expensive monster amp for a day. Wow, what a huge difference! Those 18 speakers in a little sealed box (the original design) just needed a huge amount of power, way more than most people could possibly afford. Later, Bose added ports to lower the real power requirement. Maybe the shallow sub in a small box is like that: it will work, mine sounds good, but more power makes it better.

It would be interesting if others out there have done what you did and what their observations are, in case maybe your 350 amp was defective or something.

Hey sorry to hear you're getting rid of the X. I just upgraded to an '03 E53 from an '01 E46. In my E46 I had an Alpine MRP-M500 which I'm planning to put into my X5. From your guide it sounds fairly straight forward, however for the past year and a half, I've been using the RCA connector inputs for my amp. I know my amp originally came with the speaker-level molex connector that looks exactly like it does in your original post, but I lost them. I've spent a day looking for these connectors but I just am not sure what they are called. Can I pick these up in Radioshack, or a similar store? Thanks for your help guys.

I believe you can order one of those 4-pin molex connectors from Melisa @ (800)421-5080 Ext. 154 - (800)782-5747 Fax I just installed a new Alpine MPR 500 after I determined it was my Alpine MPR 350 - bought used - that was the culprit of the sudden 'no sound output' from my system.....This amp sure sounds sweet! You'll only have to barely turn the amp's adjustment knobs to tune it.

Thank you for the quick response. She was very helpful. Hopefully my install will be a snap once I receive the connector .
