Question

I used a CD-R - it made by Maxell, and as far as I know it is good quality. Is there a particular brand that is best to use? I purposely avoided using the ones made for music.

I personally use Maxell CD-R's burnt at 1 x speed using Alcohol 120% & rarely have coasters.

i had to burn mine in 1x with IMGBURN. the first time i did it, it was at auto (whatever max speed it was set to) and my nav unit basically gave me a big middle finger.

i reburned it at 1x and it worked like a charm. i did notice the boot up being a bit quicker. going to try some roads in a few weeks to see how it might change the way things are.

First, thank you very much for the upgrade! It worked like a charm.

Second (and pardon my ignorance) - can you help me understand how I can change the language? Currently under "Settings", the only language I get are US English, French and Spanish. Some of the other members have mentioned that this new upgrade has other languages (specially UK English), and I was wondering if you can help me switch to that.

Thanks
J

The nav OS disc has 7 languages: GB, DE, FR, IT, ES, NL, US

Use NavCoder to change (Google:Navcoder)

Did you already make changes in navcoder to code NL?

Thanks for the usual help on this forum on all things nav.

I just replaced what I thought was a faulty Mk4 running v27 (it would reboot after about an hour and then lock up) with a "new" one that had v16 (I think) firmware. It turned out the fault was the "backup" map disk as the "new" unit just rebooted continuously until I ejected the disk...

It's the v16 one that's in the car just now. I upgraded successfully yesterday to 29.1 and it shows 4-1/91 in setup. Having inserted a genuine BMW 2007-1 Europe High DVD that just got delivered from eBay it works with TMC green etc., but I have no perspective mode - what's going on there? I use perspective almost exclusively and I want it back!

Also my previous unit (which I expect to be perfectly OK given the disk was faulty) never gave sensible arrival times nor had dynamic routing on v27 despite my specialist recoding everything to suit the kit fitted to the car (he said anyway). I read earlier it might be "Euro mode" due to it being downgraded at some point, which is possible as I played around with it a lot when v26 cracked to give perspective was the latest firmware. What's "Euro mode" and what do I need to get recoded to get rid of it?

Ultimately I will sell on the spare Mk4 unit as it seems neither is faulty, but before I do I want to leave myself with v29.1 firmware, perspective view, dynamic routing and sensible arrival time on the one I keep in the car. If I can get the other to do the same then so much the better for its resale value.

Thanks in advance for any advice,

Fen

The wheel just goes round & round & round & round..... All the answers to your problems (questions?) are here on the threads of this 1st Class forum. The best SatNav brains in the world have already given you the answers to your problems, if you had the patience to trawl through the relevant threads.

You want Perspective Mode back? Dead simple. Here are the instructions that I send out with any disks. Just make sure that you read, digest & follow them to the letter:

Installation Instructions:

To install the V29.1 OS:

1. Turn the ignition key to position 1 or start the car. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES TURN OFF THE IGNITION UNTIL THE UPGRADE HAS COMPLETED!
2. Eject the current map CD/DVD from the Nav Computer.
3. Insert the V29.1 upgrade CD into the Nav Computer.
4. Wait for the Upgrade Interface to load (can take over 30 seconds).
5. If prompted choose “OK” or “Yes” to upgrade the Nav System.
6. Upon completion (around 3 minutes) the upgrade CD will automatically eject & you will be prompted to select “OK”.
7. Insert the new Map DVD & set the current location & language to the UK.

To activate 3D Perspective:

Push the “MENU” button to get to the main menu.
1. Scroll to the “SET” or “SETTINGS” menu selection & push the knob to select it.
2. Push & hold the “MENU” button for about 10 seconds to enter the GPS Service Menu.
3. Scroll beyond the bottom to a 2nd page, where you can select the “Perspective” option.
4. Go back to the main GPS menu & select “GPS Navigation”, “Map Positioning”, then select “Perspective”.

To activate Speed Cameras:

1. Select “Information” then “Information On Location” then “Car”. Then select “Cameras”. Return to the Map. NB: If for any reason you eject the Map DVD you should re-activate the Camera Display!!

You Guys Rock!!!

Freakin Fantastic. I just upgraded my GPS to software version 29.1 from 20, what a huge difference. HUGE!!

The graphics are smoothed out and look somewhat 3D...

Your directions were perfect, took only 5 minutes. Prespective view is awesome.

Today on my way to work I hid the POI icons and now the option to put them back is greyed out*!$#^$%$ -

Does anyone know how to fix this?
Also, what is Camera Display?

Thanks,

Doug

2004 X5 4.4 - Black w/ Nav and 2 slammin 12" woofers in addition to the factory subs....Pink Floyd sounds GREAT!!!
