Hey guys, i am new to the Bimmer and Navigation in general. I have downloaded, un-rar'd the file, burned the .nrg file to a CD through imgburn at 1x (albeit in MODE1) and i am extremely timid to try to update the OS since i don't really want the blank screen of death.

My CD (which was named "NAV_SW") has several files and folders (table files, LST files and file folders).

You guys think i'm on the right track? I would be going from a V24 straight to V31 on an MKIV.

Again just a little timid.

You are on the right track, except that the CD should be Mode2/Form1, then it can be used on Mk3 and Mk4

With a Mode1 CD you must NEVER use it on a Mk3 as it will crash the Mk3

Thanks for the encouraging words. I have a 2005 X3 with an MKIV Nav unit, so the MKIII isn't really a concern, but that is good information, thank you. I think i might work up enough gumption to try it out tonight.

There is slightly conflicting "steps" to executing the procedure. One account says to leave the drivers side door open (didn't know if that was car specific or not) when performing the upgrade and another doesn't mention it. I guess it can't really hurt to leave both the rear liftgate and drivers-side door open.

You don't have to leave the drivers door (or any other) open, just don't turn the ignition off during the update! Don't worry if the display goes blank for 15 seconds or so (just after it displays the message saying it's detected a software disk) either, that's normal.

If you obtain a map disc with them on, or add them yourself, you then switch them on via the POI selection menu, just as you would with petrol stations or car parks etc. There are a few members (incl me) who can point you in the direction of a very good map disc supplier who adds 'safety' cameras.

They are definitely not embedded in the v31 upgrade.

What kind of program should be use, to make chnage in POI ? I may change POI in all kind of maps? I got VDO Dayton v2008 Navteq, in what kind of folders I can cgange POI(add fotoradars, gas station etc.) Plz help
