Hi all, I’m in need of your help, but first of all thanks for a great forum, I've been reading for a long time but this is my first post.
Secondly, I've spent a few days reading the Sat Nav upgrade forums, this included, as well as the faq. I eventually decided to give it a go this morning. I have an M3 E46 '03, and have the MkIV DVD Nav System. The installed OS was originally 4-1/12. I decided to jump straight up to v31 as it appeared that should be ok, and downloaded the rar file from the front of this forum. Subsequently unpacked it (winrar) and burnt it to CD (imgburn). All seemed fine. I then followed the instructions as per all the forums, (turn key to 1, let it settle, eject map dvd, insert os cd etc). It recognised the CD, flashed up a message that a CD had been inserted then the screen went blank.!! I left it like this for approx 10 mins, then ejected the CD as nothing had happened and based upon the posts I've been reading I was expecting the message to tell me it was upgrading and would take approx 6mins. Having switched it all back on, the Nav option is missing from the menu screen. There is no version in the Settings screen, the menus have all changed, and I'm left with just Computer, Telephone, Television and Set only. All of which appear to work albeit the look and feel is completely different. Worse of all, the radio/CD does not work. I cannot even switch it on ! ! ! Anyone with ideas ? I can post some pics of the new screens if it helps. Hoping someone can help. Karl. |

^ I would try disconnecting the battery for whatever time it takes for everything to reset, then hook it back up. I believe the car is suppose to recognize things that are plugged into it, she might just need a "reset" of sorts to re-recognize the navigation system...
Someone else chime in here if I'm wrong. Regardless, you cant do any more damage from trying the above mentioned. You might search google or this website to find out how long (15 minutes, 3 hours, 2 days, whatever) it takes the car to "reset."

Sounds like the nav computer has crashed, did the cd eject OK.
What speed did you write the cd at? I always use x1 (or the slowest possible rating of the cd). You did'nt close the door or the boot (trunk) while the update was loading (or turn the ignition on/off). Try again after the battery reset and burn at a slower speed. HTH

Thanks for all the advice.. and yes it was and still is very sporadic at ejecting the discs..
Eventually found that my DVD head unit was having trouble reading the burnt CD's when in situ (ie horizontal in the boot).. I took it out and sat it on its side and it loaded V31 perfectly (4-1/00). Odd, but I've had similar issues with other cd/dvd players/playstations etc etc in the past and as I could hear it trying to read the disk I thought I'd give it a try (plus I was all out of other options)... The Radio/CD was still not working however, but the battery reset corrected that having disconnected the battery '-' for a couple of minutes. So, thanks again.. Karl. |

On a Mk4, it's on the next page. Scroll down.
On a Mk3, it's still on the Mk4. You change from Mk3 to Mk4 to get perspective view :-) |
