what to do

Hello! I am new here and I have a question about this satnav thing. A friend of mine has a 1997 BMW 750iL with a 4:3 Business radio system. He has a GPS module installed (either MkI or MkII) but he was told at the service station that "it has never been activated". He doesn't have any map CDs or anything else. When I check the settings, no information on Mk or software version is shown. Is there any software installed if no information is shown? Can I install it by doing the procedure described on many websites (download this version, burn it, turn key to 1st position and start radio and put cd in nav tray)? The menu has the option GPS navigation but when it is clicked only a message saying "navigation CD missing" or something like that is shown and then the option is greyed out.

That will be a Mk1 system.
There is no "activation" required. Software is always installed.
Just insert the suitable map CD for Finland and use it.
The Mk1s have a laborious calibration requirement, and are laboriously slow.

If your friend is a BMW fan, then consider removing the Mk1 and fitting a Mk4, it will be lightening fast in comparision, with many more features.

Help required upgrading the Mk3 OS

Hi Guys, I know that if anyone knows the answer to this query, I will get it on here.

My father-in-law has just bought a 2004 Range Rover TD6 Vogue with the Mk 3 CD Sat Nav system (same as the BMW, I believe). The version is SW 3 - 1/32 and the disc in the unit in the boot is a copied CD not the original. Some RR Forums have suggested that this cannot be upgraded, whilst I have found sites selling upgrade discs.

I have a BMW X5 and have recently upgraded my OS with a CD for version 32, but this CD will not work in my Father-in-laws' unit. What am I doing wrong, and how can I fix this for him?

Also, any 'help' in getting the Map CDs for 2008-2 would be greatly accepted

You cannot fit BMW software to Range Rover nav, nor vice versa. The Boot Mode iis hardcoded in the nav and linked to the vehicle type (LRO vs BMW) and thus the nav won't recognise the wrong software.

You cannot change the boot mode unless you have factory tools - I tried long and hard with every trick I new but couldn't do it. The VDO factory in Germany can though :-)

3-1/32 was the last SW ever released for the Range Rover, there is nothing newer.

The only way to add newer software is to remove the Range Rover Mk3 and fit either a BMW Mk3 - here you can go to 3-1/63, or a BMW Mk4 - here you can go to 4-1/100

With the BMW nav, you can then fit a Range Rover splash screen and alter the colours to suit the Range Rover (green instead of red etc)

Hello, I need some help if possible. why i canīt burn a cd in mode 2 in nero. I make the steps of page 9, ''In Nero StartSmart, select "Nero Burning Rom" in the applications menu on the left hand side of the screen. The main window will come up as well as "New Compilation" window, in this window select the ISO tab and the top "Data mode" box is where you select Mode 1 or Mode 2. Use the other tabs to set the appropriate criteria such as burn speed etc, then click on the "Open" tab in the bottom right of the window, locate the downloaded ISO file and burn it.'' , but when i open the ISO file it changes to mode 1, and is the same with cd-keys ISO file. Tks

Because Nero is crap.

You must not change the OS CD Mode, you must use an image burning program that RETAINS the original CD image format

Nero forces everything to Mode1, it thinks it knows what you want. It is crap.

Use ImgBurn, www.imgburn.com, it retains the mode properly.

Tks kwiJochen, sorry i donīt explained well, the problem is the ISO files that i take from forum cames in mode 1, and i canīt force burn in mode 2, even with imgburn.
the only ISO version I found in mode 2 is v31, but ok because my MKIII have very old soft 3-1/20.
But i canīt find cd-keys in mode 2, or i can put the cd-keys in mode 1 ?

OT: SIB V24 & SIB V24.1

Hallo Kiwi!
It's a little OT, but perhaps you can tell me, where I can find the SIB V24 and SIV V24.1 to detect the difference between the Version 1-1/72 & 1-1/80 for the old MK1-System.

Many thanks
peter
