Ran down to Durango, CO three weeks ago for a weekend. It was almost a flawless trip until the last 14 miles. Avg 85 mph to and from the X5 easily handled La Veta (9,426') and Wolf Creek pass (10,856') twice and she barely drank half a tank one way - both ways.

On the return we decided to stop and get some dinner before heading home. After our meal the X5 started up and ran fine until the first stop when then the dreaded reduced engine power warning came on. Limped her out of traffic and called AAA once it was obvious she did not want to go anywhere else. A 14 mile flatbed later, after limping it into the garage I connected ISTA+ and it told me the MAF, MAP, boost sensor, CCV temp sensor, injector #1, injector #5, EGR valve and about 9 other faults were keeping it down.

Went with the easiest first by cleaning out the MAP and MAF with some spray and tried to start it again but no dice. Pulled the throttle boost pipe and saw the EGR valve was stuck in the open position. A sure sign of a failed part. Bought a new MAF and EGR valve, installed, cleared codes, and she started up with the first crank.

Only code that has come back is the PCV temp code but this is usually related to the ProVent modification. She smoked a little on the test run prob from all of the EGR stuff passing the open valve and some diesel but once that was done with it was smooth diesel power from there. Too bad she went over 120K miles on the trip. I might have been able to get an EGR valve from BMW if the miles were less.

Replaced my Valve Cover on my 09 3.0 over the long weekend and no longer have the intermittent burning oil smell. Bit the bullet and bought the new cover with all gaskets and bolts attached.
The old gaskets were hard as plastic, so it is no wonder I had the oil leak.

Replaced my alternator again on Saturday with a new (not rebuilt) Valeo alternator. All my codes went away instantly.

Removed and sold my Active SCR tank this weekend.

Didn't sell quite as high as I was hoping for, but I was pleased to see it sell so quickly and I'm certainly happy with what I got.

I was trailering my wife's horse down from Maine last week, temp gauge went yellow/red on and off couple times. Electric Water pump going. Had it AAA flat bedded to BMW dealer and had water pump, and dreaded oil filter/intake gasket leak fixed. 69K miles, luckily had Route 66 extended warranty covered about 2/3rds expense. Wifes former 2008 535xi had same electric water pump go at 65K and intake oil leak same time...planned obsolescence???

Supposedly they finally fixed hose electric pumps so they have longer service life.

Either way, I’m glad my diesel has a belt driven pump. Though the HB issue on the M57 can still stop the pump from working.

Chasing a consistent leak (not the traditional BMW weeping) from the PS Reservoir on my '11 X5D w/ Adaptive Suspension. I'm going through about 1L of CHF a week, and it just keeps leaking out cap. When I stop the engine and check the reservoir, it's got plenty of air bubbles. I assumed I must have gotten some air in the system when I did the PS fluid a few weeks back.

-Last night - Jacked it up, had the wife crank the wheel lock to lock for a while w/ the engine off - Noted some slight bubbling - ran the engine for a few seconds, and repeated until no more bubbling seemed present when turning the wheel - Drove a few minutes, and it the top of the reservoir was visbility wet
-Stopped by my Indy this morning to vacuum bleed the system - Held pressure just fine - we fired up the engine with the cap off, and the return is dumping so much fluid back into the reservoir, that it's causing it to essentially splash right out the cap - We tried draining the system, refilling, and vacuum bleeding again, but same result

Going to try and disconnect the valve block, run the engine, reconnect, then hit it with ISTA.

Also have ordered a new reservoir, as I'm at 132k. Probably time to change it, foolishly, in hopes something in the return has degraded/broken causing the excess flow back into the reservoir.

Today I picked up my new to me 2013 x5 35d sport in Alpine White / black nevada leather with 112,000kms.

First thing I did was stop by Findway in Markham to pick up some mats and cargo mat.

Off to see Jarek tomorrow for tune and some deletes :)

Drove up to my cottage to check on it in the winter and I realized that even with 194k km on the old girl, she can still get over 1000km / tank :D
