That's what I'm doing on my way to the water pump. It's nasty. Looks like it's all gummed up back through that line...https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...317e4361b8.jpg

Changed the cabin filter set under the hood yesterday. Super easy job.

Helped cut the barn smell a bit on startup. Need to clean the evaporator I assume.

 There is also one in the passenger foot well. Not sure if it helps with smells though.

Yup!

Tackled that one last fall when I had to replace the blower motor. Got it done just before winter hit here in Minnesota.

Interestingly, I didn't have the startup smell until this spring. I've owned my '11 X5D since August 2016, and have never had the smell until this year.

Fortunately, even if I leave it as is, it goes away quickly. It's just gross and annoying for the first minute or so after starting the engine.

About smell only desinfection! 30minutes special electric fan with chlorium smell to kill bacteries inside system. If it smells already like dust, cheese or socks..it is time for desinfection :D otherwise you will get sick!
If you have a garage it is good to hold down a little bit windows.... it helps. Dust smell is much lower when you get in the car.... actually almost nothing after desinfection.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...48a1aa7a08.jpg

Not sure about BMW but VW has a kit that is made for getting rid of the old sock smell. Never used it but Im guessing it was some sort of chemical designed to kill the nasties in there.

I've been looking at the Nextzett Klima Cleaner (or similar foaming cleaners).

Haven't found many stories of success in use w/ E70, but seems promising from what I've seen out there around other BMW models. I've taken the lower kick-plate off to change the blower before, so that's probably the route I'll take.

But I won't lie, going w/ the lazy approach of just shooting downward through the main vents on the dash sure sounds appealing.
