Let's here about the "self-inflicted" hiccup?! What happened?

Mine is running smoothly again - seems to be a love/hate relationship!

Cheers,

Cheers,

Part of it I already posted. Where water from a loose grommet was running into the computer in the rear side compartment. The rest I will be posting soon.

X5 M is still in the garage, BMW now think the vanos is not working fast enough on the nearside bank inlet camshaft, I say think because I am not sure they actually know this but are just presuming this is the only thing it can be.

*If* this is the problem they don't know what is causing it or how to fix it, yet.

BMW and JOY, not two words that should ever be associated.

Well, I am glad to know that I am not alone. Just got my M back from dealer after a month. It had been there for a week and half. They were getting turbo malfunction error codes from ecu. Took apart turbos, "tuned them" and returned the car. 45 miles from dealer and there came the warnings again. 6 different sets in 115 miles. Car flat beaded back to dealer. Had it 2.5 weeks more and just got it back. 200 miles and no issues yet. Have already informed BMW that if third time occurs, car is theirs. I am happy to take replacement or new vehicle (5er), but will not take mine back. They still don't have a real idea as to what was wrong. Replaced all "hoses" to turbos and reassembled them is what I am told. Had regional rep in to review the vehicle and inspect repairs.

Thumbs down

I got 3 stop lights from my dealership and it failed again. The icu receives and sends information to all of the cars modules, it also had nothing to do with whatever on earth is wrong the entire thing was replaced on my latest pit stop....

BMW seem to have produced an engine so complex with so many warning shutdown systems on it that they are incapable of diagnosing and fixing the actual issue. Much as I love the X5 M the most important factors for me are safety and reliability, my car fails on both counts.

Mine is going back in today but they already admit they don't know what to do next if the fault codes are the same (which we expect).

There is no Lemon Law here like you folks in the US have but we do have what's called the Sale of Goods Act, this clearly states that a fault must be rectified in a reasonable time, be a lasting repair or the car must be replaced. BMW are rapidly running out of reasonable time.

I know mine is not an X5M but I had the same "Engine Malfunction-Reduced Engine Power" pop up as I was driving my 2011 X5 xDrive50i M Sport Package home from the dealership, the night I took delivery (11/4/10) with under 10 miles on it! I saw a loose vacuum hose under the passenger side intake tubing. I took it back today and the sales manager got service to take my X5 right away and he gave me a 2011 X5 35i M Sport to drive while mine was being repaired. They called me this afternoon and said it was just the hose and there were no other issues or open recalls. Hopefully, it doesn't come back. We'll see...

Lack of quality control once again, hopefully that's fixed yours, what error codes did they get from the car.

The S3 X5 M engine is a variant of the N63 used in the 50i, there are many common components and hence could well be common inherent faults.
