Just finished installing the JL C2-600CW woofer and C2-075CT into the front of my X.

It's like pillows were removed from the front door speakers

BTW, I noticed that the front factory woofers are 2ohm.

Some pics later.

Will tackle the rear doors when my Dayton Audio woofers arrive on Monday.

Pics:

Note that the front door tweeter has a green with black stripe for the POSITIVE and is an 8ohm!

JL Tweeter using their supplied mounting ring in factory foam mount. Added silicone adhesive to close the deal

Negative terminal of JL C2-600CW lines up with negative of vehicle mount. I confirmed negative of factory speaker since they were not marked by using the AA battery trick. Connect battery to speaker terminals and when the speaker pushes out you look at battery for which is positive and which wire is negative. If speaker pulls in, you reverse the battery to get it to push out and you have the answer on which is positive and which is negative..

I couldn't resist

Mike

You're welcome.

PS: FYI, I used a short length of wire to make the connection from the factory tabs to the JL tabs. Not knowing the strength of the JL tabs, I did not want to bend them over and solder them. Also, I used silicone adhesive on the back side of the JL to adhere them to the factory mountings. For good measure I put a bead of silicone sealer on the outside speaker lip as well.

And BTW, you'll need a T30 bit to remove the tweeter mounting screws

PS: Here is the back side of the front door woofer in its housing after I de-soldered the factory speaker terminals. Note the 2ohm marking

Just for those who may not know, In the (gulp) 30 YEARS I have been screwing around with BMW wiring, negative is always brown. Brown wire, or any color wire with a brown stripe.

I do like the battery test. Never heard of that. Never had to use it, but nice to confirm if you're unsure.

Thanks for that wiring insight Prop.

The speaker terminal ID via battery was told to me by a professional audio/video guy who has been doing commercial A/V systems for huge commercial spaces (cathedrals, stadiums, theaters, auditoriums, etc.) for over 30 years.

I used this method to determine the sub-woofer terminals of the factory DSP sub so that I could wire it up for a separate amplifier using high audio inputs for now. When my Eonon GA6166 arrives that will change to RCA low inputs.

Can someone measure the diameter of the factory tweeter. I want to see if I can find an update which will fit the factory mount.

I will check on that today and see if I can get them for you.

Edit: Tweeter Deconstructed

Looks like about 35mm to me
