Good job Mike - Made in Taiwan too which is nice!

Again though, lets clear this up, is going to 4 ohm woofers/tweeters really going to kill your amp at normal cruising music volume? Because although plenty of happy guys around here going to 4ohm drivers - I'm not audiophile enough to know if there are any negative effects on the system with converting all the speakers to 4 ohm.

Mike - now that I look back, it shouldn't be an issue for our DSP amps unless you start to hear clipping, see posts #12 and #13 in this thread.

Definitely going with 2 sets of your JL woofers and the tweeters but thought I'd post them as a good alternative

Will let you know when I get my "play midrange" for the rear - I am 99% sure the dimensions on that Peerless driver will work, just want to be sure before I order both at $60

^Which is true but I also think a higher impedence is also more efficient? So although more power is needed from the amp its using it more efficiently? Idk, but I never blow my ears out when driving any more anyway lol so I'm not too personally worried about going to 4ohm all around -

The Peerless 2" midrange should basically drop in with minimal if any modification from my preliminary research but I will confirm next week with pictures.

Even at $300 for 2 of the C2-600 sets, $35 for Memphis Midranges, and $65 for Peerless rear door midranges, you're at $400 invested and have an extra set of tweeters you can sell for $50 probably. So not bad at all!

Or you can do Memphis x2($35), Dayton Woofers x4($160), and a set of JL tweeters ($75) so about a $100-150 difference. I looked on PartsExpress and didn't find anything I really loved on tweeters (although I don't know the exact size of the OE driver), but I'm sure there is something that would work - If I went with 4 Dayton woofers I would go with Dayton tweeters (I like to keep my brands similar as much as possible)

Stay tuned boys - update by the morning as I have my $17 spare rear door midrange that I ordered - (for science of course) on the dimensions for a perfect fit replacement driver, which likely would be the 2" Peerless previously mentioned

Jay, what brand of $17 mid range did you buy? hahahah and I love your dedication. I've done the same in other areas of my Bimmers.

Just finished installing the JL C2-600CW woofer and C2-075CT into the front of my X.

It's like pillows were removed from the front door speakers

BTW, I noticed that the front factory woofers are 2ohm.

Some pics later.

Will tackle the rear doors when my Dayton Audio woofers arrive on Monday.

Pics:

Note that the front door tweeter has a green with black stripe for the POSITIVE and is an 8ohm!

JL Tweeter using their supplied mounting ring in factory foam mount. Added silicone adhesive to close the deal

Negative terminal of JL C2-600CW lines up with negative of vehicle mount. I confirmed negative of factory speaker since they were not marked by using the AA battery trick. Connect battery to speaker terminals and when the speaker pushes out you look at battery for which is positive and which wire is negative. If speaker pulls in, you reverse the battery to get it to push out and you have the answer on which is positive and which is negative..

I couldn't resist

Mike
