I'm still not sure about it myself. I just wish there was more information/video of it installed, I am intrigued though

RB, I was referring to the mid bass speaker, not the mid range. My worry is the mid bass speaker does not have a capacitor soldered on it and the frequency range is handled by the amp, unlike the front midrange speakers. They have a capacitor heat shrinked in the wire loom it seems from the posted pics.

Ohhhhh.. The ~6" speakers? Well.. here's what I can share ab that...

When removed from the door and OE mount, the OE speakers do not have a capacitor inline. The OE speakers as they were removed use the exact same connections as the new ones- JL Audio in my case. When soldered in place, the new speakers then also do not- at least from the solder to the speaker.

Now what I did not look for is a similar shrink wrapped connection on the OE speaker line into the door. If it's there, I think I would have noted it for the significance questions like this would satisfy.

^True - I think if it was there you would have noticed - as it would probably be close to the factory wiring connection -

Hey Mike - I am going to pop out one of my rear mid-range speakers and compare dimensions or get a "donor speaker" from Ebay for $20 to hack apart and play with -

Here is an example of one that might work, just have to check the dimensions of the stock driver so it fits in the little "receptacle" properly -

Peerless by Tymphany NE65W-04 2" Full Range Woofer

EDIT: Stay tuned, I just bought a $15 rear midrange speaker on Ebay in order to get proper specs and dimensions of the driver so we can find proper replacements for that location - yes what Prop did is fine using Tweeters in that spot but would like to give true midrange dimensions -

Yes I to will be waiting to find out the results of the peerles 2 inch midrange application. RB look forward to hearing your results on this one since this is the direction I am planning to go to upgrade the midrange driver in the rear doors.

I'll let you know for sure Jay I do think they should fit perfect with minimal modification (the 2" Vifa/Peerless midranges)

What do you think about these 6" woofers? I wanted to match all 4 woofers with the 600 JL's but these look damn nice for the price -

Dayton Audio RS150-4 6" Reference Woofer 4 Ohm
From the reviews it looks like these speakers are well regarded by the BMW community. It might just be an alternative. The warranty looks good to and it appears to be a pretty efficient driver at 91. I think the JL are 92 or 93. Good find RB. From my experience I really like the JLs and works well with the X5 DSP. I cannot speak for the Dayton speakers but you might want to inquire from some of the other bimmer 3 series enthusiasts that have these speakers in their BMW.

Definitely going with 2 sets of your JL woofers and the tweeters but thought I'd post them as a good alternative

Will let you know when I get my "play midrange" for the rear - I am 99% sure the dimensions on that Peerless driver will work, just want to be sure before I order both at $60
