hey RB, I didnt realize the dropbox pic was showing the guy reusing the plastic factory speaker housing for his mid as well. I thought it was jsut for the miss bass. makes sense why he rounded all 4 corners off the mid range now.

Ricky Bobby will become famous soon enough
If Prop thought he had OCD, wait till he sees how OCD these dash and rear midranges will look - the Fountek drivers are the perfect size! and I should be able to retain the OE clips on the housing for the capacitor and wiring -

I have to do a bit of dremel work tonight or tomorrow but will get some updated pics up soon, these will look fantastic when finished - the factory speaker came out perfectly easy with a tiny screwdriver and a utility knife to cut the glue holding the magnet, the plastic factory mount is 100% intact as of now -

Haven't hooked up yet but the materials and construction being better quality I have no doubts they will sound better than the factory drivers. The Memphis PRX275 have a paper cone and sound better than factory, these Fountek's will definitely exceed the OE drivers in my opinion - aluminum cone and nice rubber surround and neodymium magnet.

I've got a pair of Founteks coming for my E46 upgrade in the front doors.

Thanks for the research RB and thanks to Prop for the guidance on the E46 upgrade recipe

A little more progress. This has been a lot of fun so far! I'm definitely getting another set of these for the rear midranges as well

Indeed... and it continues. I installed the Eonon in my wife's E46 today. I have spent only about 15 minutes behind the wheel, but I can say that the JL mid subs I bought for the rear deck are very, very happy with the new head unit.

Aaaaand to tie this back into the E53... It's a great start to a similar exercise with an Android 6.0 unit I intend to install in the E53. The timeline for that is in some flex, but I am satisfied enough for now to move ahead- at least mentally- with the upgrade path. More ab the Eonon in the Eonon thread.
