I assure you my comments are honest and sincere nothing disingenuous about them.

Ebola had been around for decades just never widespread. The Ebola 'crisis' was in 2014 when Obama was President. There was a total of 11 cases of Ebola in the USA. It was viewed as a disease of developing nations. Ebola was not seen as significant threat to the US population. No reason to stir up racists, their focus was already dedicated elsewhere. And, there was no one attempting to do so.

Maybe the problem is not the name of the disease but the name of the citizens? "Chinese Americans." They are just Americans to me. But so is every other citizen to me. The racists are going to be racist regardless.

Pretty hard to be prepared when there is no early warning system and preparedness watchdogs. We are behind the curve and it is likely we will continue to be. When you have political leadership directing the experts many will become 'political experts' or be taken out of the loop. Once an expert becomes political the result is confusion and over and under reaction by the public----buying three grocery carts of toilet paper or still going on spring break or bar hopping.
Agree with much of the above. Trump/Pence/etc should just let the Fauci, other doctors, epidemiologists, etc handle all the press conferences. Irritates me to no end when Pence holds up "Trump's list of 15 things to do" to stop the spread of the virus. Too bad the democrats are going to nominate someone to lose in November. But that's for another thread.

Yes, complacency was referring to disbanding the pandemic response team among other things.

I honestly have not seen anyone "stirring up" racists even now and it does seem to be people's personal perceptions as opposed to truly being an issue. Too many things today are about "feelings" and not facts. As we all know.... A turd cannot be polished even with glitter sprinkled on it, it is still a turd.

Don't take this as a personal attack, but I would be truly interested in seeing any examples of racists being stirred up against Asians as opposed to some example of someone being a racist dick to an Asian over this.

Example: Someone trashing a car of an Asian = a racist dick

Example: Group (big or small) telling folks to trash an Asian looking person's property or kick their ass = racist group fomenting violence

USA cases of coronavirus:

230 dead ÷
17,729 =
0.0129730949 × 100 =
1.297% fatality rate

Many of these are older people and/or people with other health problems.

Are you serious ? I swear that Liberalism has turned into a fully blown mental illness. Just because orange man says something, does not mean racists. The clear background behind your opinion is that Donald Trump called this virus the 'Chinese Virus' because it originated in Wuhan, China. And because trump said it, that's racist.

If so / then

Why are you not protesting against the name 'spanish flu' as racist ? Why do you have to virtue signal and call racism when things clearly aren't racist, does it make you feel better about yourself ? Im just genuinely curious of your thought process.

If you suspect someone's opinion may be biased based on his political affiliation, beliefs, etc. we should all try to make our points with facts and without rancor. I happen to agree with most of what you said, but we can disagree with each other and still not come down on each other. I apologize if I have "stirred" the shit too much, but as an old troop it's kind of a habit...

My British counterpart said "yanks" are weird because in the UK folks are stockpiling toilet paper and that in the USA folks are stockpiling guns!!

I just told him it's too difficult to use toilet paper to make someone give you a gun...

He seems nervous now....

I am hopeful that everyone stays safe and remains friends or at least friendly long enough to put me in their will....

As bad as virus is, lack of leadership is even worse. I don't belong to either party but I'm just using my common sense when I say this:

I've lived in US for 23 years now and I was never anti president til now. His die hard suporters can deny it all they want but the fact is that we have narcisistic maniac in the White House who constantly has to feed his ego and if you disagree with him or ask the question he doesn't like, he goes beserk.
The great think about this country is that president doesn't have powers like Putin or that maniac in North Korea, otherwise we'd truly see what our maniac is capable of.

I have no idea what stimulates a racist to go beyond talking. IMO it doesn't take much and it is a poor decision to put anything out there that might incite a racist to be more aggressive. How does your turd idiom apply to this?

Are the numbers related to Corona virus implying the CDC is driven by emotions or that the virus is no big deal?

If you are interested in examples of increased racism directed at Chinese Americans search Chinese racism due to Corona Virus on youtube.

This virus might be a good thing long term for the country. A bit of a wake up call if you will. Life has gotten too easy/comfortable and complaining about the smallest things has gotten to be a real problem because of it. Some hardship might be good (as a whole).

I've seen more people helping others than I have in a long time. More understanding, more patience, more tolerance. Granted I live in Texas (as do others on this forum) where people generally are nicer to begin with. I'm interested to know if it's the same around the country, so if other members could chime in that would be great.

This highlights the US' lack of manufacturing and reliance on China (and others) for certain goods. As mentioned, lack of preparedness and flaws in the political system that hamper the country's ability to respond quickly and appropriately.

To clarify, no I don't think it's GOOD that this has happened on an individual basis. Going to be horrible for many (probably millions when you factor in the financial aspect) for possibly the next 12-18 months. But it might be "good" to have a reminder that things/life can change very quickly and that everyone is in this together, "in the pursuit of happiness." As campfire, kumbaya as that sounds.

I agree with what you are saying, but my comment is really focused on Trump's intentions when he said it.

The camera from the press caught a side glimpse of his prepared speech, and over the word where Covd 19 is, it was scratched out with sharpie and changed to "CHINA".

https://www.huffpost.com/entry/trump...zPI_b4LdjiMc0A

You couple that with his slight pause and provocative stare into the camera right before he said the word, it's not hard to know that he's simply trying to place the blame on another country for his ineptitude and uselessness when faced with the task of leading a country in the midst of a pandemic outbreak.

You can say this is just more conspiracy, drummed up by people with political motives. But after 3 years of this presidency, i simply do not believe he has a single well meaning bone in his body.

But enough of my rant, this thread was started to share/ provide needed information for our community to better fight off this virus.

Please feel free to add more to list of things to do and to watch out for.

Peace and God Bless!
