So from what I have read it looks like the 51U screen should work with the pre-2005 models and the 53U works with 2005-06 ? I want to do this but dont want to end up with the wrong screen.

Anyone with a 2005 do this yet?

I replaced mine yesterday, and my broken screen model number was 51U for a 2004 4.4i. I ordered a new screen using the 51U as the model and received a screen that may span many model numbers. It didn't have an identifying sticker that corresponded to the one I input on my order, but it works great.

One tip that the PDF instructions should highlight is that when screwing the 4 back plate screws into the LCD screen, make sure the screen is aligned with the faceplate opening correctly before tightening completely. Otherwise you end up with the screen slightly off where the screen border in one corner is showing just slightly more than the opposing corner. It's not a big deal and doesn't affect the screen, but I'm a bit of a perfectionist and it bugs me already. I might take it out again and re-do it so that it's perfect.

Screen or inverter

I'm pretty happy with what I find from this forum, thanks.

Is there a solid way to find out is my problem inverter or screen? Backlight was flickering occasionally almost a year until it died for good. All information is shown in display, it can be seen in broad daylight. I don't like to buy new screen only to find out that problem is inverter. Car is E53 4.4 2002.

I guess inverter output is plug with black and orange cables next to text Danger High-voltage, right?

Dead pixels = you see nothing in the spot where the pixel is dead. No backlight = bad inverter.

AFAIK, there shouldn't be any difference on screen between model years. They are all MK4 wide screen monitors. Also parts catalog suggests that on board monitor (part 65 52 6 934 416) stayed same from 2003 to 2006: On board monitor cover, 65*52*6*934*416

Mine went a horrible green/yellow color . Took it to pieces yesterday refitted the ribbon and back to perfect . The ribbon , or rather both of them , were my fault . A very easy fix took no longer than 30 minutes total .

The knob can be ordered separately. Something like 6$ or so.

Later edit: that was the rubber cover of the knob. I guess you actually mean the mechanism behind the rubber knob?

Hi

Is it worth getting the replacement screen or buying a whole new aftermarket double din unit?
Mine is an 02 with GPS, TV ...etc.

Is it possible to update the standard 2D map to 3D? Also is there a standard port at the back of the unit where i can hook up a reverse cam?

Thanks
