Most probably a dead backlight inverter. It can usually be repaired.

I just replaced the screen, and it works great! LQ065T9BR51. $200 from Eurotech. Awesome. Thanks for the info folks. Complete job took about 2.5 hours, but I move a little slow. Be careful unhooking the old screen connector leads from the circuit board. I almost broke one off, and it would have ruined the whole project. The new screen is clean, clear, and bright. The resolution is the same, but I think that's a function of the nav computer.

Well it's funny you should mention that. I was pulling mine apart about an hour ago and nearly did the same thing.... I'm an idiot. Can't wait for mine to arrive, any day now... Well monday hopefully.

How much better is it? Nice and clear?

I Sourced out of Hong Kong. I was unable to source it within the USA. Took me an hour to replace it, start to finish. But it could be done faster. I was taking pictures with my cell phone of the steps. Minimal tools necessary, but no ham fisted mechanics need apply. These components are delicate, and cleanliness is a must Total cost was $138.00 for the screen and $26.00 for DHL delivery. Payment was done by Paypal. It took one week from payment to delivery to my hands.

If there is any interest, I could put together a DIY. To date, this seems to be the least expensive way to update the monitor screen. I am amazed at what I was putting up with.

I just order a Sharp LQ065T9BR51 from Eurotech for $158 plus $28 shipping. Just wondering how long it has taken for shipping for others?

Question

Hi,

This sounds interesting!
I have a Bmw E39 03 model with the 16:9 screen.

But what is the reason to change the screen?
Or whats the problem that make you want to change it?

Just wondering to see if my screen should be replaced

I have problem with the dimming light on the screen, it gets dark to early.
In the middle of the day, it looks very good, with strong light, but when it starts to get a littlebit dark, not much, then the screen goes very dark, and i have problem reading on it until it gets dark outside, then its okay again.

Is this something a new screen could fix?

Best Regards
Fredrik
