Hhmm ... I'm a little nervous about that proposition. Only because I have not looked at the actual OEM enclosure and I've never had to work with fiberglass and wood together.

I'll investigate this option more once I'm closer to starting this project.

..ha-ha-ha! I decided to make it one of those 'father-daughter experience' projects where I measured and outlined the cuts together with my daughter. It literally wound up being an almost 8 hour job right there!

Oh, did I forget to mention that except for 1 or 2 days, our highest temps haven't been out of the teens? I've been freezing my tootsies off outside :-)

........I'm as new as (you are?) to this whole area, too. I guess I will try to verify this stuff before proceeding.

Even if there's a practical method of sealing the OEM enclosure, the contoured face/body of that enclosure just barely has enough room to cut the 23.8" diameter (for the Pioneer subwoofer).

A technical question (for anyone): This 10" Pioneer woofer can operate in a wide range of volumes: from 9.9 liters to 19.9 liters with 12.7 liters being the 'optimum'.

How would the sound be 'different' in a 9.9 liter and 19.9 liter volume box when compared to the sound produced by the 'optimum' 12.7 liter box? In general more subwofer box volume = ??? Less subwoofer box volume = ????

...I just recalculated the interior dimensions of my box: Upper section - 9.4cm X 21.6cm X 23.8cm. Lower Section - 6cm X 19.4cm X 26.7cm.....and got 7.94 Liters [uh-oh!] I'm going to install it but would like to start building another box modeled on shape of the BSW subwoofer box which looks to contain a little more volume and then compare the sound between the two.

Does anyone know the outer dimensions of the BSW custom subwoofer box for our X5?

Sub looks great (did a 10" JL) - done about a month ago and am very happy. Have a question? My sub sounds much better with the carpeted hatch door not covering it. Anyone else notice this?

I was considering doing something to hatch door to get a better sound but still like the hidden, OEM look.... any ideas?

Also, in regards to the fule door vibration, seems that it is actually not the fuel door but the black and green plastic clamps that keep the door locked that are vibrating... my guess is if those are siliconed down, it should solve the problem.

I'm looking into either putting a speaker grille on mine or cutting the hole and trying to re-cover the entire hatch door (right side cargo panel door?) with some matching fabric and let the sound come through the fabric, thus maintaing that 'OEM look'.

i actually built a zero chief box i beleive, had the dimensions a while ago and finally got around to it. for the amp, i used an pioneer gm-3300t... works perfectly. jl was just a 10w-0 - probably could have went higher end but wanted to save some money....
