It is the same material used inside the trunk compartment.. I got it from local shops working in car interiors. I also used the thick foam adhesive tape came with the sub. I put it between the box and any plastic or metal part.

The bass is deep and strong ... although all the settings on the amp are on the middle spot (Gain, Bass EQ, and Crossover). You can feel the bass on every part of the car including the roof. The bass feels better than my Bose home system because the car interior is much smaller than the living room, of course.

As I stated on the other thread, when it comes to frequncy response for the sub, all you should care about is the lower end. The other end is covered by the other 10 speakers in your car.

Zerochief has the 2541 check his thread from the link on the first post
Good. Newer and cheaper is always better. Gotto go out and get some MDF and some of those nice German wood screws.

make the depth 11cm from the near side and keep the far side at 13.5cm which will give u a back angle ... this will make the door close easily ... u can also make it all @ 11cm ... this wont affect the box volume so much (it will roughly give 12.35 Litres which is almost the recommended volume)

where can i get the "crimp and snap" connectors? Does radioshack carry them also?

BTW, Awesome work. You have inspired me to do this as the next project after my Pioneer AVIC install.

Edit: NVM, found them here

Cool!
I've decided to go with the Alpine MRP M350 amp, too, but, for now, I had to settle for a 10" JL Audio 10W1v2-4 subwoofer http://www.crutchfield.com/p_13610W1...-4.html?tp=111) which requires a .625 cu ft sealed box. How would you suggest I adjust your subwoofer's dimensions for this subwoofer?

0.625 cu ft = 17.9 liters
It is impossible to get this volume out of my box
You might want to try the multi-angle box mentioned earlier on this thread

....I'm going to order that 10" Pioneer Shallow Mount TS-SW251 subwoofer and build a box like yours and have my system up and running!

More specific questions......

Looking forward to the completed project. I like the simple design, even though I have the means to build the complex version. Pioneer did some interesting engineering to make a 10" woofer work in a small box.
Technically speaking, how did you come up with the 28cm dimension as opposed to selecting another dimension, say, 27cm or 26cm, (over any other number), that would have allowed the volume to be closer to the 'optimum' 12.7 liter volume?

Also, why did you choose not to use MDF 1.8cm board all the way around?

If you had made an angle designed enclosure, how would you have gotten it into that compartment?

What year is your X5? Is your subwoofer compartment size the same as that of an '01 X5?

All dimensions were a result of trial and error. I used cupboard in the beginning then I used the real box. I used the 0.8cm MDF at front and back because when I made a test using the real box without front and back I found out it would not fit if I used the 1.8, so I decided to go with the thin one instead of building a new box.

It would be so easy when you remove the fuse box on the top and the black plastic part on the trunk floor.

Mine is 2002 4.4 and the compartment is the same on all the E53s.
