Sweet! I'll try to hack again, my attempted hack of 31 didn't work for unknown reasons...

i just wanted to say a big thank you to the forum, im a newbie and had just purchased an x5 which i upgraded the navi unit from mk 3 to mk4 and had been having loads of issues, apparently the previous owner had hacked the navboot file and once you put a dvd in it kept resetting, solved the issue today by downgrading to v 29 and upgrading again to v31 and voila working fine....however i lost the bmw roundel tho!! but no fear.....you guys are really the best!!!

I LOVE this forum!

Just bought an 06 X5 4.8 today and came home and searched for this thread.

On my FIRST attempt to dowload v31 and using Imgburn, I suceesfully loaded the upgrade and now have SW 4/00.

I also was able to enable perspective mode. Through the settings menu. Turned it to "on." Is there anything else to do besides that?

Ordered 2008.1 Navteq disk and awaiting its arrival.

THANKS.

Hi there,

I also have just joined this forum (yesterday!). I have been reading it for some time and find it a fantastic source of information. Well done all!

I upgraded the MKIV navigation on my E46 to 4-1/00 also at FIRST attempt, no issues at all, thanks to all the info I read here! Will turn on Perspective Mode today and see how it works.

I have just put in the latest 2008 maps dvd from BMW. Is there any way to see what version of the maps it is in the screen? Do I need to reboot or do anything once I insert the new maps dvd?

Are there any other features since V24 that I need to know about and enable in the newer V31?

Thank you all!
Jack

ps: I am in Germany, is there any safety camera POI data available or is this just for the UK? Thanks again!

Hi jack, welcome to the forum mate,

1: The map disc should have the version number on the face of the disc, ie: 2008-1 or 2008-2 etc, if you are running a "backup" then you will need to open have a look in the eng.lsc file on the map disc, the dats stamp is t the top of the file.

2: v31 updates the DVD drive to read dual layer discs, this is what the newer 2008-2 onwards map disc will come as, other than that just bug fixes.

3: Yes, you can have the german cameras on the map disc just like the uk ones, there are places online that will have them for free, but pocketgpsworld has a full list of all the euro cameras and you can download them from their uk web site, it is however a paid for web site, £2 for a month or £19 a year.

I update my disc al least once a month and use 2 x DVD-RW's in rotation and this keeps the costs down.

HTH.

Hi ccfj1,

Thank you for the warm welcome and for the info.
The map disc is Europe 2008-2 bmw issued dvd. I was using an old 2004 maps disc and replaced it with this one. However, since I didn't notice anything different I was wondering if it is not using a cached version of the old maps... I suppose it might be just me being paranoid...

Since I have the latest firmware update (V31) I managed to use Perspective View and I can also see the icons for the POIs.

The only thing I have not managed to do is search by zip/postal code. This should be possible even in Germany, no? I have no option to do that in the menu... do I need to unlock anything?

I will look for the camera info but I suppose I will have to burn a new dvd with that added to the maps data, right?

Thanks again!
Jack
