You are burning the image file wrong.

Do it like this:
Unzip and place the zip contents into an empty directory on your PC. We'll call this the "BMW OS" directory.
Download and install ImgBurn (www.imgburn.com)
Open ImgBurn and select "Write image file to disc"
Select the image file in the BMW OS directory
Burn baby burn!

You probably made the mistake of copying the .NRG or .ISO file directly to the CD, instead of burning the image properly.

As you have an X3, you should load 4-1/100 from the V31 OS disc, as this contains bug fixes relevant to the X3.

4-1/100 means software version v10.0
You habe 4-1/30 which is v3.0, 7 versions older, and was released in 2004.
There will be a huge difference in your nav once 4-1/100 (from 2008) is loaded

i did a bit more reading and figure out what you just noted!
i was copying file to CD incorrect.
the link with the iso converter is the one i used and installed on my X5...
boy have i been in the dark for quite some time!
now if anyone can give me pointers on how to get the 3d perspective to work!
i keep pressing the dial knob at the settings options for over 10+ seconds and nothing!

Perspective mode needs to be enabled in 2 places,

1: The hidden setup menu.

Go to the menu screen select set (or settings) and hold menu button for 10 seconds, when the hidden menu appears scroll down untill the perspective mode option is selectable.

2: In the arrow map pointing menu.

Select GPS-Navigation, then Map, then push right button, select Map Positioning and there select Perspective

is there any way to get the naming of the streets back on when using 3d perspective?
i get to see points of interest but no street names

When I'm in my normal area I leave it in perspective, but if I'm out of town and I need street names I switch out of perspective...

Kind of a PITA, but not too bad, I don't go out of town much...

Help guys....
I make the update of my wife's X3 E83 2005 with MKIV but i cannot use the navi disk 2008-1 from my X5 2008. The MKIV says ,,whrong disk,,. The same disk working fine in my X5
Any ideas????

X3 E83ist ibus-based Mk4 nav system

X5 2008 is MOST-based nav system with iDrive

Totally different nav system, maps are not compatible between these cars.
