Maybe it's me you were referring to as having recommended to leave driver's door and trunk lid open (you have thoroughly documented yourself, as that was some time back). This is obviously not a must, non car specific. I was trying at that time to minutely describe a foolproof extra-safe procedure, in view of some people stubbornly experiencing a non so satisfactory outcome to it. I was trying to emphasize that extreme care should be taken in not disturbing the car's mind in any way while the operation went on. Thus, leaving the door open would not require you to open the door to click OK at the end, as leaving the trunk lid open would not require you to open it later, to extract the CD (maybe needing to retrieve the key to do so). I think I went as far a saying you should stand ten feet away from your car (thus avoiding the risk to cycle the contact key inadvertently). The two important things to do: Be patient: do not cycle the key while the car is at it. Never ever use a Mode1 disk on a MK-3 system. You don not need to be so timid about it. After all, even dealers can do it, and have it right on quite a few occasions. Regards |

Thanks for the extra thorough explaination. I fully understand the "not disturbing the system" statement. I am quickly learning this about our bimmer.
Needless to say i haven't pulled the trigger on the V31 upgrade. Anyone ever have to have the dealer "Correct" a blacked-out Nav unit, and remember what they paid for the re-flash? |

Some dealers would not want to flash your Nav System at all, some would only do it after you accept you will not hold them responsible if the unit dies in the process, and other knowledge dealers will do it without any fuss, as it should. The price they might charge is inversely proportional to their honesty. What they will do, any way, is just what you would do: i. e. Insert the SW disk, stand apart, wait, extract the disk, and press the right side button for OK. The only difference is they will probably be using the original disk. If you get your hands on a image file of an original disk (Mode2 therefore), if you burn it correctñy, if you verify the burn, if you recheck you have got a Mode2 CD (for Mk-III), if you check the resulting CD is readable in your PC, then not many things can go wrong. If things go wrong, the dealers solution is simply to try again with their owd disk. But if your disk is OK, you can do that yourself. Regards |

Mode ist nur ein Thema beim Mk3. Die Mk4, NAVI02 und NAVI03 können alle SW von Mode1 oder Mode2 CDs laden. Mode is shown on the "Sectors" line of the ImgBurn "Write" screen. Mode wird auf der "Sectors" Zeile im ImgBurn "Write" Bild angezeigt. |

...and if your MKIII already has 3-1/63, there's nothing more to do, you already have the latest! See this page for a chart. So don't waste your time trying to get V31 to work - it won't matter anyway! Just use one of the older discs that already comes in Mode 2 - it will get your MKIII up to date just fine. |
