It is starting to grow on me... As with most of the recent BMW redesigns, you first hate it, then it grows on you, then you love it and cant wait to get one... My current lease is up in 9 month...

LED Corona Rings?

I was rereading the post on Edmunds regarding the LCI 2011 BMW X5 — 2010 Geneva Auto Show and they made a point of saying that the North American cars won't have the same rings as the rest of the world. "Further changes include reworked headlight assemblies with altered internal graphics and standard adaptive bi-xenon projectors, although the lights of North American X5s will not have the distinctive ring-style corona that European X5s will get. BMW's designers have also provided the X5 with altered cladding around the wheel arches, LED-enhanced taillights and a deeper rear bumper complete with squared-off tailpipes similar to those of the new 7 Series."

I went back to the US press release and it doesn't mention LED rings. It does mention the LEDs in the rear. Some of the press pics do show them and some don't.

The global press release does specifically mention the LEDs in front.

It doesn't make sense given that the 5GT has LEDs in front but it wouldn't be the first thing that BMW did that didn't make sense.

Anyone know anything about this?

Maybe this LED in the halo has to do with the fact that some states ( I think) and Canada mandate Daytime Running Lights, hence, the LED may not be as visible and may not pass regulations in this part of the world - my guess anyways.

Canada does mandate daytime running lights but the global press release says that the LEDs are particularly good for that as they are more visible.

I don't see any reason why the DRLs would be different on NA spec vehicles. Audi already uses LEDs without consequence, although it's dumb how NA-spec Audis will shut off one side when the driver indicates/signals.

Moonroofs have been optional equipment on most BMWs sold in other markets. It should remain an option for the US market as well.

Because dimming ones in Europe cost more and people here don't give a shit.
