Hi Guys,

I have just finished reading the entire thread so I will try not and ask any repeated questions.

I collect my new (to me) car from BMW on Saturday (Z4M Coupe Nov06). What version of the firmware should i expect to have on it, and I have asked them to update it to the latest version, which version should i expect them to put on it? V29.1 or are BMW not using it yet?

You should have V28, maybe V27. You should get updated to V29.1.

Great, I hope they will do it for me. Always nice not to have to do it yourself.

How can you tell off screen what version the firmware is. I have the Mark IV on an E70 (X5)

You won't have a Mk IV in an E70, they use a different system.

If you have a Mk IV in and E53 (old shape X5) then the version number is in the top right of the settings menu.

Not sure where it is on the E70, but you probably get at it by jiggling the iDrive controller left and right in the correct sequence a number of times!

Well, I shall see how stupid their PDI staff are when i collect the car on Saturday, until then i shall remain neutral with my opinion of them.

The sales chap has been nothing but helpful even after i drove a very hard bargain with him. (I was lucky they wanted to get shot of the car)

If they cant do the upgrades then i will just have to do them myself.

Hello All:

Tonight I went through all the steps, but instead of burning it onto a CD, I decided to burn it onto a DVD, thinking that since the MKIV is a DVD reader, that it would work fine.

Imagine my surprise when after 30 minutes, I had a blank screen, and no progress.

So I went back, burned the V29 onto a CD using ImageBurn, and VOILA !, all is good. Confirmed upgrade installed and Agree screen is now gone after about 5 seconds.

Now I'm just wondering WHY...?? Also, if one were to do something similiar (for example, not in practice) with a copied NavTeq disk, would it read if burned on DVD?

Thank you for all your advice..

PS.I read through the 29 pages about 3 times, before proceeding, just to be sure I did it right, and if any went wrong, what to do to recover. So I felt confidant in executing the upgrade.

hi i am driving a e60 from 11/2003 with navi business, can i use this navi software to upgrade my navi to work with the new maps from 2-2007

i burned the image with acohol but when i insert the cd to the dvd drive where the map-dvd was i just does nothing
it doesn't recognize the update cd

is there a way to find out what version of navi soft i have ?

is there a certain way to burn the cd or a certain way to put it in the dvd drive of the car ?

i burned the cd at maximum speed of 52x could that be the problem that the drive does not recognize it ?

hope someone can give me a hint

thx a lot

greetings ilovebytes

Welcome to the forum ilovebytes,

First off, never ever burn a OS disc at that speed, always use x1 or x2 MAX, this will cause I/O errors on the upgrade, and the last thing you want is a corruped firmware image.

I use ImgBurn @ 1x .

Once you have downloaded the v29.1 zip file, unzip it (using winzip or similar) into a sub-dir on your pc.

Then use imgburn or similar (http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download) to burn a new
(blank) cd with the new downloaded firmware image.

eg:
install imgburn.
then run.
open v29.mds (from sub-dir).
select "mode write" from menu.
press write (cd image at bottom).

Burn at 1x speed, on good quaility cd.

When its finished writing your new firmware cd,
Goto the car open the drivers door,
Goto the dvd nav computer wait for the red led on the drive to go out,
Then press eject on drive,
Eject the map disc,
Switch ign to pos 1, leave door open.
Insert firmware disc into drive, follow instruction on nav screen.
Wait (approx 6 mins) till sat nav asks to eject cd and reboot.
Eject cd,
Confirm reboot.

Thats it.

Do not swich off ignition or close the door when doing the upgrade.

Hope this helps.

John
