Thanks Davpit-You were absolutely correct, it was BS. I told the dealer I wanted another opinion and took it to different dealer. The second dealer downloaded the OS software, charged me $55 and it works great.

Have just upgraded from Ver.23 (4-1/30) to Ver27.1 (4-1/71) to be able to get "3D perspective" and it works fine. Am disappointed though that when in split screen mode the town/district name does not appear as it did beforein the right pane. Was especially handy when touring to know the name of the place.
Can this be resolved in any way? I read on this forum that Ver28 did not resolve it and I have not seen any mention about a Ver29 fix either.

Thanks
BMW UK admitted that this was a bug and were supposed to have released a fix. I was told that this would unlikely be in the next (read that as V29) release but the one after, so I thought V29.1 was it. Nope.

Very few people seem to grasp the importance of this facility. In my case in the UK, it shows the NEAREST large town as the current location which is pretty poor as the street name is correct. So if you broke down or had an accident, and checked the nav to see where you were you could find the rescue truck or ambulance going to the completely wrong town.

For a system costing several thousand pounds, it is just not acceptable.

If your car is still under warranty, then please report the bug and get the dealer to raise a PUMA case. Only way it will ever get fixed is if enough people complain about it.

Thanks for your reply Trapdoor, I read in a earlier post of yours last May that you were running a Version 26 (3D hacked). Are you still running it and did it indeed give you 3D perspective and town info in split screen
display.

Don't think so, because the nav checks that the OS software is correct for the vehicle. The BMW v29 is for BMW New Mini and BMWs. The Range Rover nav unit will reject the CD,

Anyone noticed that 2007.2 North America DVD has different root directory structure than that of 2007.1 NA DVD?

a) 2007.2 NA DVD

2 Dir(s) 0 bytes free

Weird. And the files are named different in those sub-directories.

I wonder if i need to go to V29.1 to use V2007.2 map disc.

Anyone else also observed this?

Anyway, i'm going to try V2007.2 on my V27 NAV OS.

Nevermind. Looks like (a) above is the "Professional DVD" and not the "High DVD" version.

Unfortunately not After I visited my dealer to log the complaint over the new version, the car went in for a couple of days for them to 'fiddle' with various versions and settings! They commented that the Nav coding was 'missing' (due to me having downgraded to an earlier version) and after the fiddling installed V28 with a promise to load the fixed version when it came out from BMW.

Version 26 (hacked) was superb and TBH I wish I had just stuck with that as it displayed village/suburb details correctly in the RH navigation pane. It's really odd as it seems to have passed over the heads of most nav users here exactly what the issues are. I always give an example of breaking down somewhere you don't know with a common street name - Take where I live in a small village - we have a street called HIGH STREET. So does the near geographic town that is now displayed on my nav instead of my village name. So, as an example, if I was unfamiliar with the area I would look at the nav and see I was in HIGH STREET, BIGTOWN, whereas I should be seeing HIGH STREET, TINYTOWN - because my village is in the close geographic neigborhood of BIGTOWN that is what is shown, but I'm NOT there, I'm in TINYTOWN.

BMW have admitted it's a bug. But no idea when it will be fixed. Perhaps if more Nav users complained to their dealers a fix would be out sooner rather than later or never, as I assume at some point BMW are going to announce 'end of life' for the Mk4 navi like they did for the Mks 1 to 3 and stop providing updates.

I'm hearing you Trapdoor,
But I don't want to die waiting for BMW to fix this bug that they have had ample opportunity to address . All I am after is some resource to be able to get Ver26 (3D hacked) and get back to happy navigating.

I put up a reply to a previous post by member UCrewX5 just a couple of days ago which had a megaupload download link that has expired.

Does anyone know where it can be obtained from now?
