That is a Japan-only navigation system.
It uses a very special map format used only in Japan, and not in any other country in the world.
The navigation computer cannot operate in any other country outside of Japan, as no map data exists

You will need to replace the navigation computer with the correct computer for your country

I do this all the time here in New Zealand

HI,

First of all how do I determine which Mk is it on since it has DVD Rom written on the unit. Then how do I replace the natvigation computer. Can I over-write the current system and replace it with current common OS i.e V22.1 or V29.1.

Let me know if you can assist.
Thanks.

Is not any Mk. It is Japanese, and very different to the European system.

To change it you must remove (and throw away) the Japanese nav computer, and fit a European unit.

For your age E39, I would recommend fitting a Mk4 nav computer.
You will need to change wiring, and fit new connectos. It can be done, I've done it.
Email me privately or PM me and send me photos of what you have , I can supply the very special connectors (new) and provide full instructions for what you have to do.

the v29 disk contains various OS versions for various generation nav units.

The MkII and MkIII and no longer in developmnet. The last OS version that was every produced for these units is:
MkII = 2-1/81
MkIII = 3-1/63

If you have these versions, then no further upgrade is available.

The v29 disc contains these versions, so you can burn and insert the v29 disc, the nav will tell you if the OS is up to date or not.

When burning a disc, use ImgBurn, ensure the image is Mode2/Form1 format, and always verify the disc after the burn, to make sure it is error free.

Mk2's and Mk3 will not upgrade to v29, but you can use a v29 to upgrade to the latest for that nav drive.

Just burn to a regular blank CD, but make sure is a good quality one, burn at x1 speed only and make sure its Mode2/Form1. Use imgBurn to burn the CD and all will be well.

Hi all. It seems that the update link has expired. Can anyone guide me to the correct location or re-upload the V29.1 update?

Many thanks

As noted, the link to the upgrade does not work. I would like to find a place where I can understand exactly how the DVDs etc. and the navigation system work; especially what the updates bring. Mine is a 2004 E64 with the Mark IV system. I read a lot of stuff but can't tell if the comments will apply to my system as a lot of them are older systems. The Navteq site wants to sell a update for $199, which seems to be a lot as I upgraded my Garmin for a lot less than that. I like what I have in the 325, but like some of the features of the Garmin a little better. I can use any help available.

Yes. You'll need to recode your navigation system with an I-BUS hardware kit and the geocoder application available somewhere in this forum. The piece of software can change the navigation system between euro and usa mode (not relevant), the language packs shown, amongst other nice stuff.
