CW, I come to the same numbers as you using the worldmeters.info website yet so far it is the special circumstances in a few areas that have driven numbers that high worldwide. Italy has the worlds 2nd oldest population and Spain has 20% of the population over 65, not to mention that Spaniards actual chant against government orders until about 10 days ago was "resistire" which meant I will resist.

Many places have had unimaginable failures driving the overall % higher but I fully expect to see problems in California since their homeless population is so high and typhus was already becoming an issue, same for Houston and any other area with a large population of homeless.
Sticking with US numbers only shows that mortality is very low in the USA for Chinese coronavirus and H1N1 Influenza A strain.

^Understand.

We don't know enough in the US yet to know if the numbers are going to trend following any particular country/countries yet. The worldwide figure for annual flu contains those elderly populations as well so thought it's probably a worthwhile comparison to what the coronavirus is doing to those populations. No? Happy to hear input.

I think the biggest problem is that even in the USA Influenza totals are done as an extrapolation since so many don't go to the doctor and testing for the flu is almost solely done upon admission to the hospital and the CDC uses some secret ninja bs to guesstimate the total number of infected and right now almost all people with symptoms are tested RFN for Chinese coronavirus and the numbers are truly being maintained.

Gotcha. I agree. I also think all disease numbers are probably under reported. Gotta "run what you brung" when it comes to the info.

Honestly, I'm not worried too much about the virus Happy, it's more about the financial collapse of our economy.

Don't misunderstand me, the virus will take some of our family and friends but one day it will end, and I keep a heavy heart for those losses.

What scares me is the loss of jobs and income for millions of families. We will see loss of housing and the loss of the ability to provide for our families. I fear that homelessness and hunger become the new normal.

I own my own business and my calendar is completely blank for the months ahead. I have no idea how this ends, I have no clear vision of my world in the coming months. I only hope I am able to provide for my family through this.

My E53 is the least of my concerns. For the first time in my life, I am scared.

QFT. This is my greatest fear. The country is not built to handle 2-6 months (maybe a year) of little to no production. Parachute money may help individuals in the short term but how much damage is it going to do long term. Can't just keep printing money...

I'm as scared as Overboost is, if not more. I also had to send all my employees home this Friday*. CA governor Gavin Newsom has imposed stay at home mandate for all but essential businesses such as grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations, auto repairs, and infrastructure builders.

When can we get back to business as usual?

I believe if we work to stay ahead of the curve, or rather "flatten the curve" the worst of it will be behind us quickly (although nobody knows just how quickly it will be) and we can resume our daily lives and the machines of our economy can start again.

Look into what China has done, what Korea and Singapore has done. There's plenty of good strategies that we can revise to fit our own and perhaps improve upon it to reduce the infection rate.

China did it in slightly less than 2 months. From the highest infection rate of over 10,000 new cases per day in January to low double digits as of this week.

Most of the factories has started producing again. Many of the major cities in China are starting to lift their lock down policy.

That is a dramatic success.

You look at Italy and you see that it has for the first time surpassed China in total infected cases.

Whatever they are doing, it is not enough and we should not use their strategy as a workable model for our country.

Btw, as of today:

total confirmed cases 337,000+[2][3]
Recovered 97,000+[2][3]
Deaths 14,600+[2][3]

This is a global phenomenon, and if you calculate the mortality rate globally by using the total number of cases which had an outcome (that's recovered cases + cases that ended in death), it is now at 13%.

While I applaud EODguy for getting us this 1.3% in the usa, which is somewhat comforting, I feel it's a bit misleading as you're not including all the medical data from around the world.

While it's true that this virus's effect on individual country might be different due to a lot of variables that are not equal in each country, it is still prudent to consider its overall impact throughout the world.

Thinking that this disease is a lesser threat than a "regular flu" and that we're still only at 1.3% is both a bit too optimistic and dangerously misinformed, IMHO.

For once! We’re, including myself are focused on what’s really important. Sometimes it takes some discomfort to help us to understand how Blessed we really are. This is an extremely good time for self examination.

There is no time for fear right now Boost! Fear is toxic, it’s a liar, and it’s bad for your health! Just stay focused on what’s most important, you, your family, and any one you love. Love conquers and your business will thrive when all this is over, no matter if it’s the same business or different, it doesn’t matter. All that matters is you make it through!

And, believe me, the virus is no joke! It nearly killed my 70 year old father and my teenage daughter. I held them in my arms as their life slowly diminished, It’s something to be taken very seriously! When family members are CLOSE to death, money, businesses, cars, and whatever else we think has personal value no longer matters.

I joke a bit, because after what I’ve been through with the virus, if I don’t loosen up I’ll end up in the grave with a heart attack.
