I wonder how well it works on aluminum or magnesium wheels. :dunno:

I can now confirm that the loose suspension clunk I had from the front end despite having all new components was due to a loose front tension arm bushing bolt/nut. That was the only one that took significant turning to reach torque spec... I think it was a full turn or more. Truck feels VERY tight now.

So with the garage empty I did some sweeping and decided to work on some small things. Got the rear emblem mount plasti-dipped and used a couple of coats of glossifier for a slight shine.

Also finished cleaning up a test wheel from the parts truck. The heavily abused 19" chrome style 132's. I'm not a YouTube reviewer or anything... but I am going to do a video review on Meguiar's chrome wheel cleaner $7.99 at O'Reilly. I was THAT impressed with it. Stuff destroyed a product 2.5x more expensive (Chemical Guys) which was basically useless. Check this difference out.

Before:

After Chemical Guys + agitation with boar's hair brush:

After 2 applications of Meguiar's Wheel Cleaner:

Total cleaning time per wheel with Meguiar's would be about 20 minutes in this condition. I used to spend 2 hours on a wheel that looked like this and not get as good a result. If you are interested this is the stuff and is made in different flavors for chrome, aluminum, etc but I'm sure they are all fairly similar:

Upon searching for that image there are already some YouTube reviews out there... maybe I'll skip that. But this stuff is GOOD.

Can it be used on painted rims? I have used Brakeoff and the stuff is amazing, but it's caustic as hell. Sonax works OK, but hoping for something available locally.

Got a pressure washer ?

Any of the heavy OTC acid wheel cleaners is fine. Just do it on a cool surface (cloudy day, early morning or late afternoon), very short dwell and pressure rinse it

I don't even use soap or a brush on the wheels no more. Pressure washer get's the job done and I follow up with a old mitt, as mechanical agitatio is still required to removed the ~road film~ that a pressure washer doesn't remove

I'm going to hold you to that. Very nice wheel. What finish/offset you going with? If you aren't waiting to the reveal that is... ;)

As jsoto says... this is acidic so I'm guessing it works well but only have experience with this version. They have different formulations (packaging) for different metals... and a hotline to call too if you have questions. So I'm sure they have a product that can do the job.

Same response as above. I was also looking for a local product. And wanted to avoid the boutique varieties as they are all the rage now but usually 2-3x the cost of the traditional brands. I think the extra $$$ paid is for the hype. :dunno:

Good tip. I do have one but it would take me longer to drag out and setup than to do a set of wheels this way. Plus, my wheels never get this bad and my no rinse wash and wax works fine on them while I'm doing the rest of the truck. These wheels were just in horrible condition so wanted to take the opportunity to check out some products. Hopefully the results/info will help some of the others.

I have been using good old oven cleaner on my wheels for as long as I can remember and its a heck of a lot cheaper than any "wheel cleaner"

Emory39 02-05-2019 11:37 PM

Color Bronze burst, 9/10.5 20 et 35 front and 34 rear. Should be flush to the fender.
