Fitted 1.5 springs onto each rear hatch support to provide a decent "pop" of the rear hatch when using the dash release button or key FOB button.

Works for me

Re dyed black leather interior, i kept getting these blue splotches all over the place. Some leather dye and a 3 hours later back to black. Its a little shiny but it better than looking like dalmatian seats.

Is this a spring I can get at Lowe's or Home Depot? Looks like a generic compression spring.

There is at least one thread where several sources for the springs are mentioned. I purchased the springs on Ebay.

Yes, a generic compression spring that can be found at any really good old school hardware store. It may or may not be carried by Home Depot or Lowe's. I haven't checked.

Here are some dimensions that may help you source them:

Spring ID: ~15mm

Uncompressed Length of 1 Spring: ~85mm

Uncompressed Length of Combined 1.5 Springs: ~130mm

The approximate 130mm length yields approximate full spring compression, also known as fully "stacked", when the hatch is closed.

The ~15mm ID may need some persuasion to thread over the ball end of the hatch strut. Consider wearing gloves and safety glasses during this installation process.

Your results may vary. :dunno:

I tightened the cover on my X5, as snow is on its way once again....followed up by sleet, then rain. Should be lots of fun.

Awesome, couldn't find those dimensions elsewhere on the forum. Should be able to find this local, or on McMaster

Hi all, new to the forum. Wow, what a resource.
I have owned my 4.8iS for just over a month now, and I have replaced the CCV "cover" (the small cover that looks like a threaded plastic cap), the thermostat, new tyres, and brake pads. She is going in for a transmission service next week. Loving the X...
