I now see 50i customers starting to get the engine whine issue Maybe BMW have issues with all the V8 turbo engines? |

The issue is present in the X5 50i, X6 50i, X5/6 M and F10. This was confirmed by BMW to me today. I am looking, per BMW, at a minimum of 2-3 weeks before this issue is resolved or not. They are working with BMW AG, and with the design team to find the issue. Still no clear cut answer. The believe these is a vacuum/pressure fault between the engine and the turbos. The situation, which makes sense since my faults occurred under full acceleration and that would elicit this fault, has not been reproduced since they have had the car back in their possession.
So, most likely looks like I will be getting a replacement at some point, and this was the thought of BMW Service Manager with whom I spoke today. So, looks like I am in my 328i loaner for the immediate future. J |

1. Take mine back repaired (who knows when though) with 5 year service plus as a gesture. I normally sell the cars before 3 years and about 25k miles so although it looks nice on paper its worth about 1 £450 service to me. 2. Have a new replacement car but it must be an in stock car, this leaves me only the choice of white or black and both cars have extra options so they want me to cough up more for the extra options (that I don't want). I asked if I could have a new car built to the same spec and was told no due to the UK 2.5% VAT change and 4 month build time. At least I have options, so give me some opinions, what would you do, would you go for a different colour?? Forgot to say mine is monte carlo blue |

I would take a new one. Mine is carbon black, and if I get a chance to replace it, will be with a alpine white one.

Had a meeting this morning at the dealer and BMW had already decided to offer me a new build option as well so we are over the moon, I went prepared to accept the white car (just not keen on black) but can now have a new factory build and can adjust the options as well.
Build time is going to be circa 14 weeks so they are giving me an X5 loaner for the duration, I can honestly say my faith has now been restored, hopefully we can now put this one behind us and start over again. Thanks BMW |

Well, spoke with the dealer last week, and apparently one turbo failed a "spin" test. I find this interesting, considering the turbos were taken off and inspected at the first visit over 6 weeks ago. They are saying "this should be the fix it needs", which is verbatim. I am so put off over this whole thing. I just want my damn car back. I have paid two lease payments, and have driven the car all of 4 days since this began in the first of September. I don't know what to do. I have called BMW several weeks ago, and was basically told to piss off. I am now at least a week out from getting the car back, not to mention they are saying they are going to be driving the car 400-500 miles before I get it back.
I don't trust this vehicle anymore. I want it replaced. I don't know how else to put it. What should I do? Any suggestions? I have not involved my attorney, nor do I necessarily want to, as it will cost me even more money. I am open to any and all suggestions. |

It looks like it would be a lemon if they have had 3 attempts to fix it or it has been out of service for 30 calendar days.
We have no lemon law here, our consumer protection is far more ambiguous but I gave the garage a written rejection of my car and requested a written reply within 14 days. During this period we did have a number of discussions and in the end I asked the dealer principal to fight my case with BMW UK and insist on a replacement car, he did this for me and we have a brand new car on order and the garage have kept my old one. I did take legal advice from my solicitor but I had legal cover with my household insurance policy so it didn't cost me anything, not sure if you folks in the US have anything similar? Good luck and don't back down! |
