I have to replace my screen, and I'm debating whether to buy the whole Nav unit for $420-$650, or get the screen only from Euro-tech for $200. How hard was the screen only replacement? I'm handy, but I dont want to get involved in soldering, etc. I'm a remove and replace kinda guy. One guy says it was easy, one guy says it was a pain in the arse. Anybody have a link to the steps, or can you replacers give me some details?

Thanks

I would definitely get the screen, instead of the whole unit. It is easy to replace, no soldering needed, especially if you are the curious handy type of person.
However, if we are talking about a dead LCD (went blank out of a sudden, not dead pixels or anything), I would rather check the LCD inverter. It is cheap to repair and it is usually the culprit for LCDs going blank. The matrix itself rarely goes completely blank.

I agree with chas. If you are a little bit handy and careful and methodical about taking this apart, just get the screen...it is or should be plug and chug. If you are a not so comfortable, I actually have a full complete unit with brand new screen I'm trying to sell. PM me.

i had small dots dead in my screen and was about to buy a new unit or replace it with the nav-in-motion once its released although i have full option in my current navi, but with this screen solution i would save at leave 400-500$.

My replacement is on its way, ordered about a week ago. I'll take some pics with it all apart and post them. I thought my screen was ok, but now it has lost its whole backlight. Bugger

Most probably a dead backlight inverter. It can usually be repaired.

I just replaced the screen, and it works great! LQ065T9BR51. $200 from Eurotech. Awesome. Thanks for the info folks. Complete job took about 2.5 hours, but I move a little slow. Be careful unhooking the old screen connector leads from the circuit board. I almost broke one off, and it would have ruined the whole project. The new screen is clean, clear, and bright. The resolution is the same, but I think that's a function of the nav computer.

I Sourced out of Hong Kong. I was unable to source it within the USA. Took me an hour to replace it, start to finish. But it could be done faster. I was taking pictures with my cell phone of the steps. Minimal tools necessary, but no ham fisted mechanics need apply. These components are delicate, and cleanliness is a must Total cost was $138.00 for the screen and $26.00 for DHL delivery. Payment was done by Paypal. It took one week from payment to delivery to my hands.

If there is any interest, I could put together a DIY. To date, this seems to be the least expensive way to update the monitor screen. I am amazed at what I was putting up with.
