Hi Guys,

New member here from Melbourne.

Can anyone recommend a good place in Melbourne to get a rear DVD integrated into the headrests?

Ideally would be nice if it was able to be integrated into the factory sound as well and play through the font screen.

Aust discounts

A friend of mine bought an X5 back in April 09 when BMW had a huge backlog of stock and got a $25K discount off list price.

I'd be interested to know what kind of discounts off list others have received in Australia.

Black X5, have you considered installing dvd headrests on your own? I did my own and there are a number of posts detailing how to do it on this forum. The install took me about 2 hours from start to finish and I am not the fastest. Depending on system you buy, many have integration via fm transmitter into factory system (similar to some ipod kits). This is OK for Wiggles like my boy watches but will depend on what you are looking to watch, will probably not cut it for an action packed feature film. The unit I bought had leads to go into back of sound system and also av out if you did want to connect to your dash monitor.

Like everything it depends on what you are looking for the system to do. For me and simple kids videos I got out of it for under $400 for a great looking and functioning system but without some bells and whistles. Places that I spoke to about getting more features like you are after in Sydney wanted closer to $2K.

This is a great link that helped me out if you do decide to DIY and are looking for a power source.

I know not exactly what you are looking for, i.e. places that can do it in Melbourne, but at least another option.

I already have a standalone dual screen system that can connect via Fm transmitter and had this connected to power drawn from the cigarette lighter socket in our previous car. This actually works fine as I can already use the AV input/output at the back of the centre console to feed video from and to this but I would prefer something with a more OEM feel to it if I were to bother upgrading from this.

My primary concern is with mounting of the DVD player and exposed cables so it would be nice to have a more permanent integrated installation that doesn't look tacked on.

The Aussie is strong against the USD at the moment I am planning to import just rims from U.S. as the local prices are a rip off... also I got quoted rims and tyres with non runflats .... when I asked about TPMS sensors the guy said I don't need them... he had no clue whatsoever... it worked out they wanted $3000 AUD for the rubber alone....and these were non runflats !!

You can check out ST George tyres they seem to have fairly good prices on replicas...not sure if there is a 128 replica though....

why would anyone spend 100k plus on a new x5 and then put replicas on the car.....its like buying a ford Taurus and putting a mercedes badge on it....

ive had plently of cars in my time and all i can say is the last thing that i would be skimping on is wheels and tyres when thats what is carrying my family around..

BMW quoted me Yokohama Advan tyres... I just thought it unusual a BMW dealer providing non run flats at a run flat price...
