That's because the ACCC (better know here in Oz as the Consumer Watchdog) has vowed to the pressure of a few idiots who don't understand car pricing. The ACCC now insists that the price the dealer quotes is final, no questions asked. So until the dealer knows the exact details of the car you want - specific options, the lot - he can't give you a price.

What the dopey bureaucrats don't understand is all you want is a price list so that you can do the sums on what you want.

It's a case of the inmates running the asylum.

It's more about ride quality on 20" wheels and above I think.

Just replaced the 20" RFT's with Vredestein in exact same size and loading.
My impression:
1. noticeble improvement in low speed ride. Let jolts and thumps whem going over sharp ridges and rough surface. The improvement is not huge, perhaps less than I had hoped for. Seems that RFT's are as bad as what some people say. The poor ride probably had more to do with the 20" rims and suspension. The tyre pressure are 40psi allround, done by the shop. Not sure if that is ideal or not. The RFT' are not worn, only done 13k, and still have plenty of life left.
2. Noise level, not much difference really, perhaps slightly better, as one would expect as they are brand new.
3. Grip level, sorry can't tell. It;s my wife's car and I hardly ever drive it hard.
4. Tread patterns are aggressive, with very wide grroves. Couple this witht the soft blocks makes me think that the wear might turn out to be quite poor, but will find out in the months ahead I guess.
5. Main disappointment: theses tyres are much narrower than the Bridgestone RFT's. The shoulders are much rounder, and they appear to be narrower. So I decided to take some measurements. The contact patch is aroud 2-3cm less than the Bridgestone, and the widest part of the tyres also measured similiarly less. So visually, they are like 285 tyres instead of 315 tyres (for the rear, the front tyres are narrower too).
I took some photos. The tyres are placed side by side. The Vredestein in 315 looks not much wider than the bridestone in 275, as shown in photo 1, left side.

They certainly look narrower... I'm back to the drawing board with my tyres ...the Good Year F1's I was going to be sold aren't the right load index... now I'm looking at RFT's again or perhaps Continentals or Yokohamas non RFT... waiting for them to get back to me with the 315/35 options that are the issue with brand choice at the moment...

I don't think I found any other non RFT's with the same loading, apart from the Vreds, did you? Not sure how important this is, just don't want to have any issues with the insurance, if I have to make a claim.

Yokohama Advan S.T's but I'm a little concerned at the mileage you'd get out of them... Apararently also a Continental with the 106 /110 load rating...

It's okay if the load rating is higher ... only a problem if it is lower.

I've got another compplain with the car. The reverse camera is next to useless at night, unless it is well illuminated. Anyone has a solution? Add a reverse light? Anyone done it without making it sticking out like a sore thumb?
