If this step wasn't performed beforehand, it would be a good idea. Here's what we usually recommend:

1. Disconnect iPod from cable
2. Remove battery cables, negative first
3. Touch battery cable terminals together (away from battery) for +5 seconds, a small spark is normal as this is stored power draining from the system.
4. Allow cables to remain disconnected for about 5-7 minutes
5. Reconnect battery cables onto battery, negative last.
6. Reboot iPod by pressing on MENU and CENTER buttons for +5 seconds and then reconnecting to the DICE cable after the reboot process is completed.

Still waiting to hear my DICE... what am i missing?

Trying to hear some music from my DICE, think I've read all the pages of the thread but still no luck.

2001 X5 3.0L Nav/non-DSP. Installed the DICE, pulled the fuses, disconnected the battery, touched the terminals, that whole deal. I have an iPod mini with firmware 1.4.1 and an 80 GB Video with 1.2.1. Rebooted both. When I plug in either, I get "INIT" on the dash and DICE ***INIT*** on the Nav screen. After a few seconds, the iPod starts playing, but the dash & Nav still read INIT. I'm on CD 6- 06. Clicking and popping when I turn the volume knob on the BMW stereo, but no sound. Any ideas?

What do the steering wheel controls do on the DICE? I'm pretty sure what the volume buttons should do, how 'bout track forward and back? Good for browsing thru playlists?

Also, I hear that other inputs are good for something- CD 1, CD 4... Is there a chart somewhere that shows what each is for, or am I always supposed to be on CD 6 Track 6??

Thanks for any help- Now that I've removed the CD changer, I'd love to have some tunes in the truck.

PS - all my dipswitches are in the up/OFF position.

Check the 2amp fuse on the harness to see if it has blown, if not - the battery disconnect/reconnect procedures would be best.

Tom - another question from the technically challenged.....will the title/artist still be displayed on my radio's screen (my '06 X doesn't have navigation and I've noticed that artist/song title are displayed only when I listen to the radio, when I listen to a cd, only the track number is displayed) w/ the DICE kit? Thank ya!

Yes, DICE will display track title, artist and album information while in play.

Sound from DICE, no controls or display

So, I went thru the battery disconnection again, pulled the fuses for the 3rd time, and checked all my connections again. Finally got sound from the DICE, and that sound is better than the FM modulator. In the first couple of days, the track name and artist scrolled across the dash display, but I've never gotten the display on the nav screen. A couple weeks after the install, the scrolling display is gone from the dash, still no display on the nav, and the track forward/back buttons on the stereo & steering wheel don't work. The nav screen often shows INIT ***pause*** while the iPod is playing. At least I'm getting sound, and the iPod automatically powers up and down with the car, and I can open the console bin to work the controls on the iPod. I'm going to the $tealer this weekend to have my nav software upgraded, see if that helps or if I'll need to go through the battery & fuse deal again. 2001 X5 3.0, Nav, no DSP.

If you're getting the INIT message, the DICE is writing text to the NAV screen. What Generation iPod and iPod firmware are you using?

I have returned from out of town to find my DICE package in the mail. Props to Tom for saving me the nonFree-Trade duties and fees. I'll be buying from him again simply because of this...not to mention the support we all receive here.

About to install. All the write-ups I have read don't mention disconnecting the battery. Do I pull the negative then positive or should I pull fuzes?
