About to install. All the write-ups I have read don't mention disconnecting the battery. Do I pull the negative then positive or should I pull fuzes?
We prefer the battery cables if at all possible.

I've got an 80G Video with 1.2.1... and my setup seems to be devolving day by day. Today the stereo wouldn't even recognize that the DICE is installed (MODE button toggles from radio to tape only). Rebooted the iPod again but nothing changed.

I am running an old NAV firmware (I have a 2001). Would an upgrade to v22 do anything?

Thanks for any help.

NAV upgrade won't change anything. Was the audio system changed since installation of the DICE kit?

First step would be to perform a battery reset to allow the DICE to reinitialize:

1. Disconnect iPod from cable
2. Remove battery cables, negative first
3. Touch battery cable terminals together (away from battery) for +5 seconds, a small spark is normal as this is stored power draining from the system.
4. Allow cables to remain disconnected for about 5-7 minutes
5. Reconnect battery cables onto battery, negative last.
6. Reboot iPod by pressing on MENU and CENTER buttons for +5 seconds and then reconnecting to the DICE cable after the reboot process is completed.

Let me know if these steps correct the problem.

No changes to the audio system

I'll try the fuses first and then do the battery dealio again. What a hassle it is to get to the X5's battery.

Hey Tom, I just wanted to say that I installed the DICE in my 2004 X5 4.4i today and it installed flawlessly. This was the first time I had ever really messed around with my car myself, so it was quite the experience. No problems here, 100% satisfied. Thanks for a great product!

Still no luck on 4.8is

Tom,

I still am having little luck with DICE in my 4.8is. It has been months since i used it (unplugged ipod and left it after a couple months of tinkering) and decided this morning to give it another try. I took the battery cables off, touched them together and let all sit for 10 mins. I then reattached, negative last and rebooted ipod. I connected the ipod and all seemed to be great. I got in the car to drive to work very excited that I finally got it to work...52E to 805N...and then back to square one.

I started to hear what sounded like interference play through all the speakers along with my music. Some kind of digital screaming. Turn the volume knob....click click click. Change the track, drop out when the Tag updates...

Before I took the battery cables off I turned bluetooth off on my phone and unpaired with the car to make sure it was not the problem. You have updated my module with a newer firmware rev to take care of the bluetooth issue.

I have a 60GB video.

Any other suggestions before this thing goes to the city dump? bad cables? bad luck?

I read on this and other forums about this kind of stuff happening to others. Is there something different to the 4.8? some combination of options? I would really like this thing to work...

In order to determine that - we need to datalog your X5, since you are in the area, you have the luxury of coming in and having your vehicle checked with your configuration.

Otherwise, we can only make educated guesses based on past experience and the info you provide. The offer is out there.

I have the 3 pin, 6 pin, and Coax cable on the back of the changer. Do I need the DSP module as well as the Ipod Dice? I guess what confuses me is This "If you have a factory Cd-changer installed check the connections for a 3 pin and coax input. If it has a 3 pin and 6 pin input, your vehicle does not need the DSP kit."

Thanks.
Since you've confirmed analog DSP, you do not need the adapter. This is the kit you would need:

DICE iPod Integration Kit for BMW

Feel free to contact me directly if you have any further questions prior to your purchase.

Tom.

Quick question about my dice. I have noticed that when I try to turn it on, after it has gone into a sleep mode, usually after 12 hrs or so, the audiotext will not show up on the screen and also the steering wheel functions will not work. I will have to unplug the ipod, turn it on, then plugged it in again. The ipod will then go back to the first song played it was last time booted. I disconnected the main unit and then plugged it in again, but this keeps occuring. Any suggestions? Thanks.
