Hi Tom,
Based on all your excellent commentary here on X5World I purchased a DICE adapter for my '01 740il (w/ NAV and DSP). It arrived today - Monday - and I installed it this afternoon. Thanks for the quick shipping. Sadly I've only had partial success, and I hope you can offer some advice. I can browse the iPod successfully, but no audio plays. I'm using a 5th Gen iPod (v 1.3 according to iTunes). I've also tried an iPhone with equally limited success. I'm not sure if it matters, but the negative battery terminal was disconnected during the installation. Since then I've unplugged the DICE module from the vehicle cable and let it sit for 50 seconds (key out of ignition), which corrected a few initial problems with text but didn't resolve the audio thing. Any ideas? |

Hello again (Budget M3),
I tried to disconnect the Bluetooth, and the problem was still there with both interfaces (Dice/Icelink-Plus), my car's production date is 9-2003, I even tried an earlier model 4.6is production date 2-2003, and a 4.4i production date 6-2001 (without a bluetooth) and same problems after a while (i.e. 2-3 days)... I used an early generation ipod nano (2gb), an ipod video (30gb) and most recently an ipod touch (80gb), the latter does not work properly at all... BUT, on the lighter side both worked much better with X5's without navigation/TV screens production date 5-2001.... AND on an E46 330ci production date 3-2005 without navigation... So.... I guess there could be something in that.... but i don't have the energy anymore to troubleshoot, way too much of a hassle... By the way, the RETROFIT KIT, AUXILIARY CONNECTION can be bought separately for cars 2002 and above and are relatively cheap (50-80$) and easy to install; P/N 65120153502 for X5's with CD PLAYER AND RADIO BMW BUSINESS (C43) or P/N 65120153503for X5's with NAVIGATION SYSTEM, PROFESSIONAL, OR, TV FUNCTION, OR, ON-BOARD MONITOR WITH TV. They even work with the Sony Walkman and even with my Mobile Phone Sony Ericsson W880... Regards Yanal |

EDIT: Just checked those part numbers on realoem. They list that part for the euro E53's (including euro 4.6is) and several US model 5 and 6 series, but not the US E53 X5's. Now I am really confused...

I spoke with adam at dice tech support today and he told me they are aware of text issues not resuming, and will swap out dice units with new software once the update is ready. I recall reading in this forum that they spoke to them in october or november last year and they told them the same thing.
My text problems happen after one or two cycles of using the car. Text stops scrolling and then disappears altogether. I unplug unit and reset software to option 3 and lose it again in a couple uses of the car. |

I noticed something else with my e38 - when I start the car it flashes "CORE NOT FOUND" very quickly before loading the iPod details.

I am swimming in a sea of success.
That was a bit melodramatic, but it's fixed and I'm happy about that. I woke myself up in the middle of the night with the idea it might be a poor power connection to the DSP unit. When I looked at the wiring I realized the self-piercing t-taps I'd used to power the DSP unit hadn't pierced the sheath on the power cables. Hence, no power. Two quick incisions, some wire wrangling, and audio is flawless. I'm not thrilled with how it handles text on the nav screen (more often than not it says something fun like TR ( track TRA for about ten seconds after making a selection, but I suspect I'd prefer to have the text under the gauges anyway. Tom - thank you for your help, and the offer of additional help. You've won a long term customer. Now if only you carried Volvo stuff too. |

Which setup?
Hey Tom, been scouring this thread for the exact answer, but at this point, I'd rather just ask. Appologies for a duplicate question...
I just picked up a Certified 2005 X5 4.4. and want to install the DICE setup. I have Navigation and the trunk mounted 6CD changer. The Stereo has DSP (which I guess makes a difference). I'll be connecting an iPod Nano and iPhone (1st gen) to this. I really like the ashtray replacement interface that you see here: ![]() What kit do I need to set this up? and how much will is run me? I started configuring a setup, but I want to make sure I'm not adding cables and such that I don't need. Feel free to shoot me a PM, if you'd like. Thanks!!! Stephen |
