Unknown to probably almost everybody because it was not covered by the non news: the delay in the first round of tests was that they sent out like a million test kits that were contaminated with the virus. Not just did they always report positive, I suppose there was a possibility of infection of people in the process of collecting a sample! That alone added 2-3 weeks to the delay in testing. This was not a "leadership" issue the leaders put the ball in motion. The people making and distributing the tests screwed up and definitely due to how exponential curves work it could have been double the cases from that horribly timed hiccup.

The tests gave false readings, I don't think they were contaminated with the virus and infecting people.

The older we are the less effective our immune system is. Even seniors with no underlining conditions are high risk And many seniors with underlining conditions, even some of those in nursing homes do not have one foot in the grave. Segregating those that were terminal would been helpful but guidelines were still needed to reduce the risk for all, including seniors. That is mostly our responsibility. Because nursing homes don't know who is or not following the guidelines many do not allow any visitors including family.

Perhaps the next administration will increase the CDC budget instead of reducing it, expand the task force instead of disbanding it, increase the funding of the WHO to better monitor what will emerge or the next administration will respond with a great preparation plan addressing the CDC, WHO, and Bill Gates warning all put forth years ago.
This is the part about lack of leadership, pointed out by BC on a later post.

It is what it is, we need to look forward and prevent this lack of preparation from happening again.

Many experts predict another rise in infection in the fall/ winter season. Let's hope we fare better.

There is so much conflicting data from the CDC and now with the mystery of why did they stop updating the hospitalisations.

The truth will set you free! Put up the raw data and maybe a Ά or two to help interpret it but don't just stop posting the data when it stops helping some agenda. The best example was when Google trends stopped posting weekly updates of the 2016 election about a month before the election when things started to break for trump. How does that make any sense?

If the truth is more and more people were doing searches that indicates a break toward trump they should have kept posting the weekly updates so people would be aware and could vote informed vs blind. That one backfired pretty bad. Why people that pretend to be news actively taint the data is beyond me.

So now, when there is significant data that we need to develop plans for reopening when and where, the CDC steps showing the data WTF!?!

Why will they never learn. People can handle the truth but hiding the truth will always always backfire.

CDC admitted they screwed up in their fabrication and sent out contaminated tests. This is why they were entirely useless. If it was live virus it could have possibly infected people.

Based on *literally nothing*. It reminds me of all the speculation during election nights trying to guess the outcome. Just wait two more hours and *know* the outcome.

Likewise there is perhaps just as much chance that like cov1 this cov2 will just disappear, so let's prepare for the worst and hope for the best. And tell "experts" that think they have a clue to predict the future to put that guess where the sun don't shine.

Anybody that suggests there is a better chance one way or the other is pulling that out of their ass.

All of those reasons above might be a few reasons the world needs a pandemic. A reminder about how things come and go a few times a generation that we aren't necessarily prepared for. Ever. This one will pass, nothing will change, and we'll be having this discussion again in 20-30 years. Hopefully a Democrat is in office so the Republican voters can have their turn blaming the opposing administration.

People dying from natural causes, or phenomena doesn't bother me in the way it does some. I'm not of the mind we can save all people all of the time. As Andrew has put it, in no uncertain terms, we are not seeing deaths on a level beyond what we might see from the flu. And that's with most deaths being attributed to CV19. For varying reasons, the numbers being collected are wildly inaccurate (including attributing flu deaths to CV19).

We are not in a black plague-like situation, and talking about it like we are is not going to help the situation. Obviously, I don't wish anyone's grandparent, parent, or themselves to die. OBVIOUSLY. But, if elderly people are always more susceptible to the flu, and we don't freak out that the majority of flu deaths every year are in that population, why are we doing so now? Just like every flu season, the elderly need to be cautious, hygienic, and get the flu vaccine. The rest of us can wear masks, wash hands, etc to help the situation and protect them as much as possible.

Andrew. Even at only 30% effective for the flu vaccine, that's a large statistic. Yes, sometimes it's ineffective because the wrong strain is targeted, but the statistics still show it's better for the public (especially elderly and young children) to get the shot over time.

The New York times article mentions that the CDC stated the mfg. did not follow the CDC process. It also mentions the tests were contaminated with the virus but I didn't find anything in the article that the virus was live. Fact checks on the Blaze are mixed. Perhaps in this case they stretched the truth. I think if the virus was live that would have shut the internet down. Regardless the CDC blew it.

The coronavirus or any other virus are NOT ALIVE. They are proteins.

Bacteria are alive and can be killed/eradicated.

That is why they are so hard to kill since you can't kill something that is not alive.

Yep and as “they” suggest that high risk people get the shot but the heathy don't really need to, but in a recent biased non news suggested it's terrible that only 30/40% of America get the flu shot, but that's actually probably just about right.

I think that once in a while these things have to happen to kick humanity in the butt so we can learn some humility. We think we are "all that" then this happens and we are put in our place.

I think that's the basic idea behind the "this sort of thing has to happen occasionally" above.

Over the course of human history there have been numerous world wide resets and this one will go down in history in the top ten maybe?

Recall my comments about pointless to stoke the fire of hate. Trying to pin the blame on people in the administration or CDC etc is pointless and most likely just ad homonym attacks.

Trying to pull the race card because somebody refers to the Wuhan virus as such likewise is complete falsehood. Viruses have typically been named after the location where they were discovered eg Ebola. It wasn't Frank Ebola that discovered it. It is named after the area where it was found there is no good reason the cv19 virus should be called anything other than the Wuhan virus it's not racist or derogatory it's simple factual. It's also ok to call It sars-cov-2 but it was pure politics and obfuscation as the motivation of not using the proper name convention.

Also, far as I'm concerned I "take it back" there is a who to blame. The literal WHO. They absolutely lied for weeks and weeks. Without their absolute disregard for truth and facts the entire pandemic could have been contained, they should not get another red cent from USA. A different yet honest organization that isn't wrapped around China's pinky finger can replace them the have officially run their useful course and do not deserve a second or third chance.
