Question Upgrade to V29.1

I downloaded V29.1 and burned it to a CD with IMGBurn 2X with verify. I unpzipped the files with WinZip. Upon installing the CD into the Nav system on my 2001 M5, the screen went blank. I am sure I did something wrong but can't figure it out.
When installing the CD into the Nav system, do you have the key on/off. What is the actual process one should go through to make that happen correctly.
Thanks for the help!

I first turned the key one pitch, inserted the cd, screen went black also, but after a few seconds the screen "installing" came on...
5 minutes later I had to press OK and everything worked.

I currently have the v20.1 OS installed on my Mark 4. I just bpught the 2007.2 maps. Does it mater whether or not I have an old OS? If not, can I upgrade maps then upgrade OS? Does one need to hapen before the other?

Not sure....the v20.1 I had dates back to Nov 2002 so at this point anything is better than that one. British Mode or not.

CAUTION-Since my navigation system has not worked since I upgraded to the V29.1, I took it to the BMW dealer and they have stated that the CD I installed caused an internal short in the monitor and the cost to fix it would be $2488. Any suggestions about option that I might have to resolve this problem?

Bullshit from the dealer!

Please do a search on the forum or please someone confirm Piper the following:

Even with a blank screen, as long as there's some leds on, the navi is alive. Get a well burned cd somewhere else and put it in the navi. The system will reinstall the system even if you don't see anything on the screen.

The missing info is that I think I read somewhere that you might need to use an older version (e.g. 28 or 28.1), because if it's the same version the sytem will ignore the update. On the other hand, if you downgrade and if you live in USA, you might get the system reverted to european and you'll need to reconfigure the system using an ibus kit and some windows app available on the forum. But even in european mode, it's worth the try.

Split Screen Display Info

Hi everyone, First post on forum but have browsed site many times with success.
Have just upgraded from Ver.23 (4-1/30) to Ver27.1 (4-1/71) to be able to get "3D perspective" and it works fine. Am disappointed though that when in split screen mode the town/district name does not appear as it did beforein the right pane. Was especially handy when touring to know the name of the place.
Can this be resolved in any way? I read on this forum that Ver28 did not resolve it and I have not seen any mention about a Ver29 fix either.

Thanks

BMW UK admitted that this was a bug and were supposed to have released a fix. I was told that this would unlikely be in the next (read that as V29) release but the one after, so I thought V29.1 was it. Nope.

Very few people seem to grasp the importance of this facility. In my case in the UK, it shows the NEAREST large town as the current location which is pretty poor as the street name is correct. So if you broke down or had an accident, and checked the nav to see where you were you could find the rescue truck or ambulance going to the completely wrong town.

For a system costing several thousand pounds, it is just not acceptable.

If your car is still under warranty, then please report the bug and get the dealer to raise a PUMA case. Only way it will ever get fixed is if enough people complain about it.

Thanks for your reply Trapdoor, I read in a earlier post of yours last May that you were running a Version 26 (3D hacked). Are you still running it and did it indeed give you 3D perspective and town info in split screen
display.
